Sorry if this is a repeat post, but i could do with some information on teleconverter. I currently have a tamron 70-300mm lens fitted to my 400d and was hoping that the purchase of a teleconverter might help to get better close up photos of wildlife etc. Will a converter bridge the gap from what i have now to a longer telephoto lens and is there a great loss on the quality when using a converter? Any help or information would be gratefully received.

Its almost certainly a rebadged Kenko 2x.

You loose a LOT of quality with 2x TC's even on stellar lens. The Tamron 70-300 isn't a stellar lens, and you are going to be at f/11 on the 300 (600mm end).

No idea if the 400d will even AF with that?

(certain Nikon's will AF with this sort of combo in good light)

I believe Canons are hardwired not to AF past 5.6.

I think it's probably best to save up for a better telephoto 400mm lens then. Thanks for you comments.
