Yes
:'( Just been down to my local Jessops at Crown POint - Denton Manchester.............

..........and its gone.

Note on door saying 2 other store's located in Manchester region so if you want anything, head off there.

Just got to know one of the guys quite well, and he's helped me out quite a bit over the last couple of years. Hope they got redeployed ok.

Thats a shame, its nice when you find a good shop with helpfull staff. My local Jessops is ace, i always have a chat and a bit ofbanter with the staff there. Just a shame its all Nikon this, Nikon that now;)
Dean:)

Aha, it's not in our store.
We might have Nikon logos on our uniform, but I'm still a devout Canonite :D
Glad to hear that FP,
I overheard one of the sales guys pushing the Nikon D40 or similar, to a customer, saying how great it was etc, I know for a fact that paticular salesman uses Canon 1D mk3, boy that must have hurt.
Dean:)

That's a shame, I got to know them in there too, one of the girls was doing a photography degree course and I lent here some books for her project. I bought my printer there because they were so helpful.

Just hope they are all OK.

I also have fond memories of Jessops. Sad to hear.

It's a shame. I don't directly get involved with any store to store stuff, because generally most of the people who work in Jessops are so boring it's unreal. My manager for example spends his free time meeting up with the managers from local stores and going to wetherspoons on the club nights to eat steak and drink beer.
The only fun people in Jessops are fun because they have lives! Hence why I don't do any store to store stuff. The only people I really care about in Jessops are my colleagues, although my heart does go out to all the people who have lost their jobs, knowledgeable or not.

Dino F, the D40 is a great camera! For price and image quality you can't beat it, unless you go for the Sony A200, which I'm not too fond of the ergonomics.

In Glasgow's "Evening Times" tonight there was an article apologising for Jessops not honouring the 30 free prints promotion the paper was running last week.

I also read that they intend to have further restructuring (redundancies) and more branch closures. The article reported Jessops were now tendering out print jobs to other companies.
Looks like the days of a branch in every city are well over :'(

I don't know what happened there?
We always honour vouchers, regardless of their origination. Even if we haven't been told about it.

As far as printing, we have been sending our prints off to other companies for god knows how long?
I.e. people go online to Jessops jpics to print off their photos, and then the photos are printed by Cewe and sent into the stores.
Unless you mean something else?

First Zavvi on the retail park and now jessops, a sign of the things to come.

To be fair though it was always quiet and last time I went in for a 5 in 1 reflector I had to point what I was talking about in the catalogue to the assistant.

Guess this just leaves the one in the centre of town (deansgate) and the one at the trafford centre.

The large Jessops on Deansgate Manchester vanished the other week too, this was a superb shop, plenty of staff and a really good range of gear on display, I was re directed to a tiny little place with two staff who couldnt handle the influx of customers and although they were nice enough they didn't seem to know what they were doing.

Luckily I've discovered Jacobs and Calumet!

A quick look at the Jessops' Store Finder and the East Kilbride store appears to have gone too (nearest store listed is 6 miles away), I was in it fairly recently too.....

Apparently that was shut due to the lease expiring, and the landlord had demanded double the rent they had been paying to renew :cuckoo:

I'm suprised the big store on Deansgate as gone. I guess if anyones got an extended warranty with Jessops you got to be a little worried by now

Sounds like they're just consolidating stores. I'm still surprised that in Glasgow they have two stores within 5 minute walk of each other.

HEY WAY TO BE A JERK

why just because you dont agree? ive had a bad experience with them
dont enjoy the crap service they provided
dont think the staff know anything about what they are selling
they are expensive
the list could go on
:razz::D

1. We're number 1 Jessops store in our area for a reason, BUDDY! (as the canadians say in south park), not all jessops stores are rubbish!

2. I'm a Jessops employee, and a very respectable (:p) member of the internet's best photography forum.
I must know something! aha.

The rest, however, are all fair enough ahah :p

Is it surprising they are having to close shops to save money? 3 in Manchester, I think there was 5 in Glasgow, 3 or 4 in Birmingham city centre alone.

I know it is convenient to have a store in every suburb, town and village but get a grip! The only type of shop that can have such a high density, and make money, is a supermarket

I think it's taken far too long for the people high up in Jessops (high up in the clouds so it seems ) to realise this.

Let's get thigs straight here about Jessops. A few of you have suggested that Jessops as a company is closing. This is not true.
Jessops are closing 17 of it's stores, Denton for example, because those particular store are not making any money. Sound business sense if you ask me!

Who is suggesting that all of Jessops are going? Ballgirl comes closest by mentioning Zavvi, but then says that there will still be a couple in the Machester area

Errm, actually (without getting funky about it) - first was 'The Works' - then 'Zavvi' then 'Jessops'.

I knew the Zavvi crew also. Great guys and gals. Provided me with tunes that my aged ears would never normally have listned too.

In one shopping centre thats fairly high % of fails... and I reckon of those thats left, another 25% of them are seriously worried if not more.

Errm, if your a tog in that area & want to teach a new dog new tricks please send a pm :D

I was up in EK today and it was all shut up with a sign saying the nearest store is in glasgow.

Is there are list of the stores anywhere rather than the list of locations?

Do you mean stores that are left, or the ones closing?

The ones that remain can be found using the store locator on the Jessops site...

That looks like three out of five gone in Glasgow, plus the East Kilbride one.

I wonder if they'll be having another closing down sale?

Amazing isn't it? Jessops, Jessops, Jessops. Anyone would think that they were the only people on the high street , and that they are the benchmark for the industry. All we see on forums is talk of Jessops, rumours, stats etc.

I don't think anyone seriously wants them to go out of business, besides , think of the jobs that would be lost.

Name two other major photography retailers with hight street stores nationwide then, or even one......
