I'd like to say thanks to Jessops for saving me from spending my cash in their shop!:(

I unexpectedly got paid cash for a couple of jobs if it had come as a cheque i would have banked it and left it!

£300 suddenly burning a hole in my pocket i decided it was fate so went to buy one of the lenses i've been looking at for months! Got to Jessops and was ignored for 10 mins by their wonderful till monkeys who would rather stand around talking than actually serve someone!

Maybe it was the fact that i was wearing an old scruffy pair of jeans (we'd been clearing out junk from our business premises all day) but i got ignored while one of them made an attempt to help someone looking at digital photo frames and the rest stood around talking!

When they did finally approach me i asked about one item i was told it was out of stock and the assistant walked away before i even had the chance to ask about the lens i gave up and walked away!

Cheers Jessops top customer service! Now i remember why i usually buy online:thumbsdown:

It's always easier to buy online and cheaper

Yeah i know i usually do but i had heard that some copies of these lenses are sharper than others so i thought for once i'd buy in a shop!

Needless to say i'm now looking online!

i hate my local jessops (although they did redeem themseves somewhat recently) i have a good reletionship with Jacobs and will buy from them because they give me good advise and give me decent help.

so far they have got near £500 from me - would it be cheaper online? yes but i will pay (a little) over the odds for there help and i will be using them for £1200 soon!

i have walked out of jessops before due to their lack of knowledge

I could understand it if the shop was busy but there were more staff than customers!

Ah well it's cheaper online anyway!

My local Jessops are awesome, including all the staff I have dealt with. Helpful, Polite, Knowledgable and very friendly. They ALWAYS price match for me, without question, and I get filters thrown in when I buy lenses too! I would be gutted without it.

But do you spend big all the time? If I remember correctly you joined this forum less than a year ago with brand new equipment? ANd have upgraded a lot in this year? So I imagine if you spend big regularly everywhere will always be polite and throw in extras?

So it could be down to appearance and hpw much you spend and if they know you.

I do spend a lot, however my friends get the exact same service, and are always real happy. Last week, I went in to buy the Fuji S5 Pro, brand new member of staff, we had never meet. She was instantly interested in the camera, asked about the hobby, explained how she was a fan of portaits and was studying photography at college. She was very cool and seemed like one of the gang so to speak. I asked about the price match with Warehouse Express, I got it, and she also gave me an additional 10% due to a promotion which was *about* to go live...

My local Jessops have always been good, and on top of that when I buy through their online store and do an in store pickup they tend to be a pretty good price too.

As such, I make an effort to buy from there as I like having a high-street store.

God, I remember when I bought my first decent camera, a s/h film Nikon SLR from Jessops in Slough, they were superb and the advice and help were second to none. They got my cash and I told everyone else to go there too. A bit different now, I went to a different one on Tuesday to ask about a macro reversing ring and was met with a blank stare of incomprehension before the lad went and got help. Needless to say they did'nt have one.

I still like Jessops, and I give them my money when I can.

I've got my 50mm f/1.4 AF-S on order - they will get lots of stock, and they tend to give me a good price.

I remember when the Cambridge stored swapped out my D70 (hot pixels galore) for a D70s without any hassle (didn't ask for that, they just did it).

i could be descriptive but needless to say the jessops in hull is generally cack.

That can't be the case in my local Jessops - I regularly go in and gaze at things I can't afford and the most money I've ever spent in there was £50. If they do recognise me from all my gazing sessions they know I have sod all cash and they are still always very friendly, helpful, and attentive

They don't even lose patience with the idiots that try and collect photo's without the receipt and can't remember who's name they ordered them under!

It's just a shame all Jessops staff aren't the same...

Maybe i got unlucky today but i probably won't go back because of it!

There's some stuff i would prefer to buy from a shop so i can check it first and for ease of taking it back if there's a problem!

But i don't think Jessops will be top of the list!

Queued for fifteen minutes in my local Woolworth's last night. One girl on the checkout, no wonder they are in administration.

Customer service is garbage nowadays, that is not the way to go.

I asked at the Jessops in canterbury the other day to price match a website, and the manager point blank refused!:(
When did they price match it for you?

I think its unreasonable to expect a store with rents, overheads and staff to pay, to price beat a web operation (take Martin's Camera, often cheap but one bloke in his backroom so they say)

Why not just buy online?

Martins Cameras have premises.

Fair point! I just went in to try the lens, and thought if you dont ask you dont get. It is not that i was annoyed they didnt match it, more i was suprised to here that one jessops does, and another jessops doesnt!

It could be due to locale.

The rents / leases in Cambridge are really high so I wouldn't not expect my local Jessops to price match a web operation with low overheads.

Quite often they will take some money off if you ask, but generally they only price match other local stores. It does depend on where you are I imagine (and the mood of the staff at the time I suppose!)

you've been looking at a lens for months, go to buy it, stand in the shop for 10 minutes then ask about something else:thinking:

Why didn't you just go to the counter and say excuse me have you got XXXXXX lens in stock.

A lot of people don't like being asked if they need any help, it makes them feel pressured into buying something

When I was deciding between the D90 and D300 the assistant in Jessops. Purley Way,Croydon couldn't have been more helpful. Quite happy to stand there whilst I fiddled with the cameras. He answered any questions I had.

I ended up buying the D300!

Get your point i probably wrote that wrong i asked about one of the lenses it was out of stock went to ask about the other one and she walked away!

If i go to a shop i don't really want to be hassled non stop when i wonder round looking at stuff but i do expect someone to show some interest when i stand at the counter/till to buy something for 10 mins!

Went into my local jessops (the camera world jobbie on deansgate, manchester) and its a mixed bag. They'll let you play with cameras, always push you in sony's direction at the moment, and know not much about the equipment! When i started asking about canon lenses, was also met with a blank stare!

id rather do my own reaserch on here (net) and order online, i have no inclination to ever go to jessops at all.

i always just say "hello?" in a loud voice as I walk in, sufficiently loud so they turn around. No problems so far :)

I have only ever bought one thing from jessops a CP and I asked for a 77mm CP and they came back with two brands. Easy as. Bought one. Fine for me

I like how we're all slagging off Jessops, yet TP is advertising them practically in every post. Oh the irony. Incidentally, I too have problem with Jessops. I didn't think it was possible for a chain to maintain the same disgraceful customer service country wide.

Is there just one in Edinburgh? Where is it because I'd like to check them out next time I'm through there.

I went in my local Jessops the other day and to look at a Canon g10.

There were three members of staff in there, ranging from the spotty girl wh'd just left school, to the manager who's been there since it opened, who knew his stuff.

The guy in the middle knew very little about the g10, so I reminded him he was supposed to be trying to sell me something. That sharpened him up a bit. He went and looked at the warehouse express website! :D And a few others. Still not much cop though!

Although I haven't bought much from there recently, it's the only camera shop for about 80 miles. I hope it survives.

well if all buying goes via the web then the shops will close. i support mine cos i like the banter and they within reason give a good deal.

I think its rude to ask in store for whats hot or not and go and find a deal on line. You get to try THE actual product before you buy.

I've been told that they only price match if there is a voucher currently available (either in a magazine or their website) or another physical shop within 30 minutes travelling time

I generally agree but I normally go in with my choice narrowed down - therefore a decent inkling of price -so twice I've walked away because even after they've "reduced" the price two or three time its still 50% more expensive than online

which branch gixasix? you havnt put a location on.

This is one of the most frustrating things for me, I am the manager of the store in Halifax and all my full time staff have excellent camera knowledge, and the part timers are always friendly and will pass anyone who needs more information over to one of us lot. I've had a few TP'ers reveal themselves in store and it's been pleasant to know that we DO buck the trend somewhat compared to what I hear in this thread!

Do though if ever any of you guys are in my store and have a problem let me know! Either face to face or drop me a PM on here. It's disheartening to know that my efforts are perhaps being overshadowed by idiots in other branches :(

Tom.
