I recently went into Jessops to look for an underwater housing for my Canon G11 camera. After the recommendation from a number of staff, I was shown the aquapac 420.

After thinking about it as it was quite a bit of money, I returned to the store yesterday (Monday 28th) and asked again if this would fit the G11, I was again assured that it would so with that recommendation I purchased the Aquapac 420. I returned home and started to put my Canon G11 inside and it got stuck. Clearly not being meant for this size of camera I tried to remove it, however in the process I stretched the bag.

I realised that it this bag is not meant for the G11 and decided to return it, however was refused a refund because I had got the camera stuck. I purchased this aquapac on the recommendation from people working in Jessops that it would definitely hold my Canon G11.

So basically Jessops have screwed me out of £35 :(

If you've double-checked with the retailer that it's the right item and it's not (and therefore is damaged attempting to use it) then they have zero reason to refuse a refund. Did you voice your concerns to the manager?...

Sounds like you were miss sold goods. Should be entitled to a refund surely!

This was on the Jessops website

Hard Lens Cover
With this model there is a hard cover that will accommodate most zoom lens ranges allowing you to make use of the camera's lens fully. The acrylic material is optically clear for excellent results.

Supplied with a neck cord, 5 gel sachets and a 3-year global warranty.

The Aquapac 420 housing is designed for digital compact cameras of up to 200mm circumference. To check if your camera will fit, try Aquapac's Compatibility Guide (Opens a new window).

You needed the 445 not the 420

If it was clear that it wouldn't fit but you still tried to force it in then that is your problem IMO, however, if you were assured that it would fit and it clearly couldn't, then I would return again and ask for a refund/correct model and if that were refused I would take the matter to Trading Standards on the basis of it being mis-sold.

I agree, it's hardly a regularly sold item I would have thought.
Go back, speak to the manager, be calm but confident. Explain that you were mis-sold the item. You purchased it upon the recommendation of a member of staff.

It's a clear case for mis-representation of goods. All you require is a refund. The fact it is stretched isn't your fault. You stopped when it was evident that it didn't fit.

oh they remember me, I was in there for about 30mins talking to the manager and they said because the bag was broken they couldnt offer a refund.

well, called jessops CS, they said I need to email them. Have done and waiting for a reply.

Im just so ****ed off that im leaving for a holiday in a week and how no time to find something else.

true, but the 445 is another £30 and I didnt want to shell out money when I might not get the other cash back. Plus its a big bag..

Why didnt you take the G11 in to the store with you? If I was buying something like that I would take my camera with me.

They assured me that it would be fine. It shouldnt matter if I took it in, I should still get my money back as they recommended it.
