Just on the off chance that anyone here may be considering a Canon 5D MkII with a 24-70mm f/2.8L, if you are thinking of buying from Jessops, I strongly recommend that you buy the camera and lens individually rather than as a kit.

They have the body at £1799 and the lens at £999 for a total of £2798. They are selling the two together as a kit for £2899!

Even the guys in the shop couldn't explain the discrepancy.

Yea strange thinking but I dare say some people have bought them. The thing about buying them as a kit as well is that you are "self-gimping" the re-sale price of your 24-70 because it will be a white boxed one. Hope this helps some people as a lot of people wouldn't bother to check.

wish I was in the market for that kit, just had a quick look around and found the body at 1600 at simplyelectronics which is still out of my budget

In either case you could ask them what their best price would be....you may be pleasantly suirprised!

I did and they wouldn't budge. They reckon they just don't have the margins. In fact, they said there was one model of camera (can't remember which) on which they lose money each sale, but make it up on the accessories.

a white boed one???

what do you mean

The lens in a 'kit' will be in a white box, and not the usual red/silvery grey one. Should you wish to sell the lens at soem point in hte future, it may put some people off if it's in a white box.

Just checked WE £2739 for 5D(ll) plus 24-70 compete kit

Camera Body Only £1802
24-70 Lens £1019
