Does anyone know if Jessops are currently price matching competitors in magazines. I am in the Market for a 40d but with the luck I have when it comes to buying things I would rather buy it over the counter than have the hassle of sending it back online.
I know I can order online and pick it up at my local branch but Jessops have no offers or current voucher codes in place at the moment.
As for bad luck most things I buy turn out to be faulted:bonk:, for instance I have only just returned a new Dewalt drill which had a jammed gearbox after a few minutes test, it's the story of my life!. maybe I will write a book about it one day:D

It all depends on that day and your luck to be honest.

I had gone to the Islington Jessops [just outside Angel Tube Station] and the guy agreed to do a price match with WareHouse Exp and was also ready to give me a 2GB CF card what Warehouse was offering for WE's price.

A week later some other guy in the same store would not budge an inch.

With so much of shortage for 40Ds in the market I eventually decided to wait a while as the cash back promotion is until the last day of this year.
 
I was thinking of waiting until after xmas, there is sure to be some good old healthy competition when money is short, of course that will depend on the supply situation.Trouble is I have sold my 30D to my son and am making do with my old G6 as a stopgap, bit of a come down from the 24-105 ISL:(
I may look in WH Smiths tomorrow and see if there are any price match coupons in any of the overpriced mags.
 
Dixons also price-match (it's on their 'site) - if you fancied the challenge and didn't mind some Ebaying, get them to match www.tekmo.co.uk 's price for the 40D/17-85 IS kit, claim the cashback, and then flog the lens on the 'bay for £225 or more. Should end up with a UK main dealer-supplied 40D for less than 600 notes. :thumbs:
 
There is a voucher in one of the latest magazines for an instore price match to any advert in the magazine. I've just used it to get my 70-200 VR. I had to shop in Jessops as I had vouchers for them which was a bit of a pain.

I went through a lot of grief, had head office agreeing to price match via mail order IF I sent the vouchers in the post to them (£1000 worth of vouchers in the post, I think not!!). Head office eventually said it was up to the individual store if they would price match so after several calls to my local branch it seemed to be ok, but then W/E were out of stock so they said no again! Eventually, the assistant manager said if I could find the voucher in the magazines she would do it anyway so I went to Tesco and spent 20 minutes going through all the magazines before finally finding the voucher...

Thats the short version of my story...the long version is so unbelievable it would ake you wonder how Jessops are still in business (although it does help explain why they are struggling at the moment).
 
It's always best to go into the shop and discuss with them. Take evidence of the price you are seeking.

Which magazine is it in?.

I called in Jessops branch and asked if they were still doing this and they said they were but could not tell me which magazine had the voucher in it. Went to Wh Smiths and could not find it in any of the photo mags.

I am now thinking of buying the kit with the 17-85 lens and selling it on to my son for the difference.

But it will have to be over the counter at jessops on a price match.
 
I had a blazing row with a jessops store manager a few weeks back when I was in the market for a tripod.
I had all the tripod and head lined up on the till and being scanned by the assistant when I noticed that there was a "Prices Matched" clipboard on the counter with my EXACT tripod and head combo matched to £20 less in Warehouse Express.
I asked for the same deal and... to cut a long story short the manager refused to give it to me unless I could show him a magazine in which it was advertised.

I tried explaining that was completely stupid, but... he wouldn't listen :p
So 15 minutes of banging my head against a brick wall I left without buying anything and bought a tripod that cost £100 less!
 
Have bought a 40d today from Jessops. Did a 'collect in store' through their website, £749.99 using online code 'webex24'... with Canon cashback it'll end up costing me £699.99 so quite happy with that
 
Richard, have you still got the magazine?, if so would you kindly"nip into the other room" and have a look at warehouse express prices for the 40 d body alone and the kit with the 17-85.
When price matching, do they add the cost of postage?.

Don't know if you still need it but the prices are...

Body only: £399
There is no 17-85 bundle in the advert though :(

EDIT: They didn't stick any postage costs on when I had my price match?!
 
Think you quoted for the 400D price there Richard...
 
Called in my local Jessops (Northampton) and asked if they price match, was told no, shame for them as i was looking for a Canon 300 2.8.
Bought one the same afternoon from Camera King for just under £2900.
 
Thanks for all the posts, Dixons is a good price, but they no longer have a high street branch. I wonder if Currys (Dixons renamed) would accept returns.
I really do not want the hassle of returning something in the post should there be a reason to, and the ease collecting or returning the camera at a Jessops branch appeals to me despite costing a little more.
I will possibly bide my time as it seems the coupons are an ongoing thing in various publications but as I mentioned before I may give in and go for it for £699 at the most after cashback.
