Jessops Boxing day sale - DSLR's

Looking to buy my first DSLR soon and wondered if i held on till after xmas in the boxing day sales do you think i could pick one up any cheaper than there at now. Looking at either a Nikon D3100/D7000, can anyone recall Jessops reducing prices on DSLR's last year in the sales?

I'd be quite surprised if there are deals on those two cameras. They're both new.

If there are deals they'll most likely be on models that are being run out.
 
Don't forget VAT goes up at the beginning of Jan too....
 
If I remember correctly Jessops sales normally exclude DSLR bodies anyway.

I'm not so sure, I bought my D300 on Xmas eve (which was just after Jessops got their stock of the then new model) convinced that there wouldn't be any discounts available in the sale.


On Boxing Day they slashed £100 off the price.......



Fortunately, being Jessops they were decent enough to refund the £100 to me when I went back in to see them :D
 
DSLRs never really on sale, you may expect to find an older model at a discount at any time, even in the run up to christmas

Are you sure its one of these two cameras you are interested in as there is a huge difference in price?

Yes i realise that, starting to sway more for the D7000 as i feel it may be a better investment in the long term. The d3100 would be a perfect beginner camera but the better functionality of the d7000, build quality, inbody motor is starting to appeal a lot more than the d3100.
 
I can't see there being much in the way of reductions that soon for the D7000, most places well under the £1100 body price at the moment are non uk models or out of stock - I can't see this changing for a while. It's also hard to find in the states and with ken rockwell saying its the best thing since slice bread demand is going to stay strong even at list prices.

It's the best camera I've ever seen - relatively compact yet every feature you could ever need - I would try and get one it will last you far longer than the D3100 and open up relatively cheap non motor AF lenses that are useless on the D3100.

Had a handle on the d7000 in Jessops yesterday - great camera - just felt a bit small in my hands and I am really not a fan of having that "point and shoot" style dial on the top so I've decided to wait it out unitl late Jan for the D330s replacement which if you believe the hype is going to end the world.

I got a D90 2 years ago (just after they launched) on Boxing Day
got the kit with 18-105 lens for ...£670, that would even be a good price today.
the offer only lasted for one day though

Nothing wrong with D7000 if you can afford it and will use it.
 
have you looked at the prices at digital depot as when i was looking for my d90 they sorted out a price that was far cheaper than other retailers and a great friendly service.

it worked out for me anyway
 
Jessops sales usually includes 1 micro-fiber cleaning cloth, and a couple of FD len's:lol:

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it - excellent camera. My point was there are too many people trying to sell things (not just cameras, TVs, PCs, etc, etc) that are way above what the purchaser actually needs. The recommendation is too often based on price (commission !) only.

If the purchaser is making a choice between these two cameras, I have to wonder where the "expert" knowledge/advice is coming from.

To adapt a simile I used in another thread: "You need an Aston Martin or a Fiesta, Sir" (To someone with L plates on their car still !)
