Ever since i downloaded this upgrade the battery on my Sony experia s has been dire, is it possible to uninstall it without having to do a factory reset?

Cheers

Sadly not.
Your update to jellybean overwrites the ICS (ice cream sandwich) system files so deleting it (if there was such an option) would stop the phone working.
Doing a factory reset will only take it back to stock jellybean so that is pointless too.

If you really are adamant you want ICS back you may have to look into rooting the device and downloading the official ICS file and do a backdoor install.

"The update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean brought new features, such as improved entertainment and camera apps, improved battery life, improved app organisation and new personalisation options."

Maybe there's something else not right.
Could there be a problem with say, an old app that hasn't made the transition from ICS to JB very well.
I'm so used to rooted Android I can't remember what tools are available for managing the battery in factory Android.

My wife phone did this. Check in the battery settings and see what process is using up all the battery.

On my wife's phone it was the media process. Seemed to get stuck on an iffy corrupt jpg file from when her SD card was in her blackberry.

Try removing all the files from the storage by just dragging them over to your computer and see if it it fixes the issue.

I formatted both the SD card and internal storage and replaced the folders and the problem went away.

Sounds too complicated for me that does :-D,phone's been unsettled by the upgrade, gets a bit jurky ,any idea how to swap/backup my contacts :-)

Your contacts should be backed up on the Google servers automatically.

Try calibrating the battery, and then see what app/process is draining it.
