Weeks 26-31

I knew running two projects this year would be difficult - and I've neglected this project since week 25. Many thanks to those of you who gave me encouragement, advice and interesting information.

I'm getting back on track for Part 2, and since I missed the photo opportunities in the missing weeks, I'm going to 'catch up' with current shots over the next couple of weeks.

After a slow start in early spring, everything leapt into growth but now, with summer past its peak, everything is slowing down again and I can take a bit of time to take stock.

Tomatoes have been slow to ripen and not so plentiful this year, but I thought this beauty deserved a photo:

I've been trying for ages to get a good close up of a blue flower, but I'm not sure if this is it or not. I'd really appreciate some feedback. It's a Streptacarpus grown indoors. I placed it on a window sill to get the light behind it to give it a sort of dreamy look, but I'm not at all sure whether it's worked or not. Be as harsh as you like!

Three more photos and I've caught up to week 31 and I'll try and keep up the momentum through the autumn.

The Smilies Gang seem to be on strike tonight, so please imagine a big smiley from me to anyone viewing this.

Hi Jean, two 52's is a pretty tall order so I am not surprised that you fell behind. Good week this week though.

I love the colours on the tomato. Really vibrant. I thought it was a red pepper. However, I would have preferred a slightly deeper DOF so that my eye was just not drawn to the green (which is theoretically the insignificant bit). Only my personal preference.

I really love the Streptacarpus. You should make this into a greetings card. The colours are absolutely gorgeous. I really like backlit subjects. I know you were trying for a dreamy look, but I copied the photo and had a play with it. IMHO it looks even better after tweaking the levels to make the dark bits stand out more and it really makes the light shine even more through the light bits. It does, though, make the little white dots on the bottom left flower stand out more. These need to be cloned out.

Smilies are working tonight so I shall use them :clap::clap::clap:

Thanks Jenny - your 52 is one of my best inspirations! (Smile). Please feel free to post your tweaked Streptacarpus. I'd be really interested to see what you've done - I actually took lots of shots of this and but haven't processed any more yet. (Smile) I noticed the dots too - after I'd posted! (Bangs head on brick wall)

Help - MY SMILIES STILL AREN'T WORKING! (Bangs head on brick wall again!)
- and neither are any other editing functions. Grr ..... what have I done? Have I offended the Smiley Police? (eek)

I will post what I have done, but it may not be to everyone's taste. It is just a little tiny tweak, but the colours are so lovely that I wanted them to stand out more. With backlit flowers I really like to see the little veins running through the petals.

I would also guess that viewing photos like this depends on how people have their monitors set up, so it may look completely over the top to some people.

My smilies are still here

Hi Jean :)

I love the delicacy of the petals in your streptocarpus, tomato is a bit noisy in top lh corner, but my goodness, what a big tomato!!! I'm available for breakfast anytime this week! ;)
