Well, here I go. This is my first entry. Week 8 - Chaos

I was at Golden Acre Park in Leeds a few days ago, and it was my first proper "try" with the camera outside.
A child was feeding the ducks and seagulls. The gulls were squabbling, and the din was horrendous! It was also highly amusing.

Although I am reasonably happy for a first attempt, I know there are many imperfections; such as it being slightly out of focus! I hope things will change as I am just getting to grips with AF settings. Plus I don't have a photoshop program yet (which I am soon going to buy), so hoping that future entries will be better.

Oh, and how do I get that stupid bar off the top of the photograph? :bonk::cuckoo:

Hi Jackie

well done on posting your 1st shot  You've already mentioned the bits you want to improve so you're learning already & peeps on here will always give helpful friendly advice

Great idea for Chaos , certainley fits the theme well.

Good luck with your 52 project:thumbs:

Hi, Jackie, nice first post...

You've already mentioned focus which from my limited attempts at photographing birds was quite hard.

As for Photoshop, I've heard the Elements software is very good.

From Flickr, I tend to copy BB Code 'Medium 640', this will remove the bar at the top.

Just had a quick looks at your Flickr and you've made a great start, best step now is to get to know your camera...

Cheers.

Hi Jackie, and a belated welcome
I love Golden Acre Park btw. Your image is bang on theme for Chaos. I always find that shooting moving birds on water is difficult to focus so you are not alone. Not a bad result at all there though.
I swear by Photoshop but regularly use freebies, GIMP is a free Photoshop wannabe and Picnik is an online free programme for post processing.
I am still scratching my head for the Chaos theme. Got a few ideas but they are opportunistic
Are you gonna attempt a catch up- at your own pace, A few people have submitted to the 52 out of sequence. I joined at week 4 and submitted for the first 3 themes then.
Good luck with the rest and I look forward to seeing more

Martin:)

Hi Jackie, welcome! You have a very good attempt there, it's good that you have identified areas already that you need to better. Gulls are a cracking subject, and I would say one of the best to practice on, to help get you used to bird related photography. I look forward to seeing your 52 develop.

Thanks for the encouragement, it's nice to be able to show my shots on a photography forum instead of just facebook and twitter!

I have downloaded a trial version of Elements 9, and am going to try and get a grip of that, as it looks complicated!
I do use picnik, Marts, but I might have a look at GIMP. I haven't decided whether or not to 'catch-up' with other themes yet,

Hi there

Welcome to the 52! Hope your doing well and enjoying the 52 experience!

It's been a great tool for me to really get back into photography which ive sorta been too busy for in the last few years. It's also taking me to places i've not been before!

Your shot is great for a newbe and really sums up chaos! The fact there pic is cluttered and some birds are out of focus really adds to the shot...The only small change i'd have made for improvement might have been to take the pic from a lower viwpoint and crop slightly tighter. Looks like you where standing... quite often shots can be greatly improved by crouching down! Also dont ever think that shots must be the format aspect of the camera... dont be aftaid to crop like a letterbox or a square etc...

hello and keep up the good work! great shot i know what you mean when the ducks go mad its is "total chaos" that really good that you are aware where you need to improve sometimes that the hardest thing is not knowing whats wrong :thumbs:

Hi Jackie, what a great image for the theme "Chaos". I love all the energy and movement in this pic.

I really like the expression of the duck on the left - I can imagine what it's thinking! Also like the reflections on the water, ad the white water where the gulls are splashing.

I would second Mark's comments on composition.

Great pic

Cheers, Patrick

Thanks for the positive comments. I'm hoping to make some improvements in general as the year goes by. :)

Week 3 - STYLE

Sorry, I am trying to catch up. This isn't easy with my shift work and getting ready for our holiday to Lanzarote, added with having an eye infection last week.......anyway. Sorry for the inconsistency and irregular postings of my 52's, hoping to get inspiration when we go on our holidays.

I bought myself a new dress, which has a spotty design on it. You can just about see the ribbon tie at the top right.

Week 9 - FINISH

Have been struggling for inspiration this week, but have thought of this.

Let it Be by ElizabethR1533, on Flickr

Basically, it's a a shot of Paul McCartney on the back cover of the Beatles - Let it Be album. This was their final album as a band, ie they finished after this. Shot also shows the reflection in an empty bottle of wine.

I've not been around for a couple of weeks. We've been in Lanzarote for the past week and a half or so, so I although I've been having fun with the new camera, I've not been on t'interweb.

Apologies again for the inconsistency of posting pictures.

Anyway, this is my contribution for Week 11: Reshoot/knowledge

The reason for my posting this, is that my first posting for week 52 project was of a flock of seagulls. The picture was taken when I first got the camera and wasn't really used to the settings. And although now I am obviously still have a lot to learn, I am starting to get to grips with it. So this time, when I shot a seagull, I feel I have done it more justice.

Hi Jackie

Really like your reshoot of the seagull , well caught  The color on the legs & beak stand out nicely :)

Your style shot confuses me , all I can see is a mass of dots , looks good as an effect , sort of lots of little LED's .Maybe a shot from further back would have helped ?

The Finish shot also has me  I know the album cover you're talking about but would have prefered to see the whole thing ?

Don't like sounding negative but trying to say it how I see it so please don't take offence :help:

Hiya Jackie,

Glad to see you have made a good start with the Photo52.

Like the re-shoot photo which is nice and clear.

Cheers

Dawn :)

No worries, Blondie! I was very short of inspiration those weeks. The spotty photo I really like, it was just of a dress at a weird angle - hence style.
I agree, the record was a bit naff, actually!! :bonk::cuckoo:

Have been VERY busy recently, with shifts/nights and haven't had a chance to take photo's, never mind edit/post them. Hopefully, will get around to posting more, soon.
