Yes
When starting out did you have a specific field of photography in mind?

I originally was only interested in motor sport. 1 month of having my camera and i'm still yet to tog a single motor vehicle.

I am finding now I want to try and do everything, but it seems every different area of photography has an substantial additional £££'s outlay attached to it lol.

1 month in and I have spent at least another £300 on a macro lens and other bits and bobs for my bag, and the wanting list is growing every day.

Really I need to concentrate on getting the most out of what I already have, but I seem to have much more time in front of the computer (work in IT so at a pc / internet all day) than I do with time to actually go out togging.

Sitting here assimilating as much knowledge as I can is all well and good but I have get out and start using it. :bonk:

I'm quite interested in starting 365 but I don't think I have the time or daylight hours now to get one every day. :bang:

Point of this post? Well just wondering if you concentrate one one primary aspect of photography or go about them all in one way or another?

Good question!

When I started out we were still writing on slate using a chisel....... well it feels like it anyway!

No I started on film and shot mainly landscapes and I was really, really bad at it too. I did find that I was Ok with things like motorbikes and dogs and then I didn't shoot anything much beyond holiday snaps for a few years.

Then along came digital and I will now take anything that moves and a heck of a lot that doesn't! I found that the one thing that scared the **** out of me was people and now I love it. My friends think it's great fun and regularly indulge me with whole days of messing about. Hence I now have my own portable studio gear.

I'd like to have a go at some sports togging so that's on my list of "like to have a bash at" and I've now shot a couple of weddings so I'm less scared of that.

Motorsport holds no real fascination for me and birdies don't really push my buttons photographically. I'm the same with work and togging, not enough hours in the day!

I do think it's good to try a few different genres though, the techniques learned in one can sometimes be creatively applied in another.

I have one field that I am comfortable with (certainly not a master at it though!) but I also like trying to get birdie and other wildlife pics even though its very frustrating when they don't come out the way I want them to, but then the odd one wher I get a flying bird in the frame pushes me to do more!
I have no interest in people, weddings or street photography at the moment but I would like do more sports stuff, its just a case of finding the time and opportunity to get out and try it.

For me, I really want to make it as a motorsport 'tog. Thing is motorsport on really happens at the weekend, so what to do for the other time? I have branched out now and do a bit of everything really.

Thats a really good question! when I started I had no idea but I seemed to lean towards architecture (especially when I discovered HDR which (for me at least) seemed to work well with the subject)

However being on here has inspired me to try other areas...Flowers (ta Donna, Susanne et all), Macros (nod to Alby!), lightbox stuff (cheer Barry, Maureen etc), Candids (thanks Tristan!)

When I see the marvellous work some of the folk on here produce I think I must give that a go! And I do although maybe not always as successfully as those who inspire me!

So although my love of architecture is still there (especially the abstract style) I have (from being a member of this place) tried to broaden my range!

Sport and glamour and proper portraiture I've not tried but one day I guess I will!

Yep I think I'm Jack of Some Trades :)

i'm a jack of all trades.
i get asked to some portraits, i get asked to shoot gigs, i am trying to do commercial photography and know someone who is going to help in that respect and get me known and maybe some business.

personally i love to shoot landcapes and wildlife (even though i am not kitted out for those yet.)

After a trip to Scotland with my friend back in November last year, I just knew that I had to get into photography to capture what I loved, Landscapes. At first this is all I did, but now I really enjoy taking abstract and automobile shots. I would like to take the opportunity to do macro and get a macro lens soon as some of the shots on here have impressed me a lot, unreal stuff!

I had wanted to get into action sports photography, which I still do a bit of, but I have been shooting more motorsports than anything else. I also enjoy taking portraits and have spent a bit of time doing landscapes as that is my Dad's main area of photography. I'd like to have a go at Macro, but have other priorities for my funds at the moment.
