Further to my other thread I've done it and made a deal on the D200 and MB-D200 grip :woot:

According to the current owner he's taken less than 500 pics on it so practically new (he does have a D40, D300, D2x, F4, F100 and others so not suprising really). I've agreed a price of £550 for both and I'm picking it up tonight. The best bit is I can pay in 2 installments (£300 tonight and the remainder next month - April)

The only real pain is I don't actually have a lens or compact flash card with me in the hotel so I can't use it until Friday when I get home.

The other thing is that the D80 uses SD cards so I need to buy some Compact Flash cards, I do have a basic 512MB one that will keep me going. I'll be going for SanDisk Extreme III's butI can't decide between 3x2GB (~£40) or 2x4GB (~£45)? Keeping in mind that I shoot RAW and the D200's RAWs are ~15MB each I am swaying towards 2x4GB but then I don't want to have too much exposure to risk from card failure so 3x2GB seems safer.

New toy, excellent. . . . I would go for 2x4GB, how likely is it that a card will fail?

Congrats on the purchase :woot: Nice price aswell

Agree with getting 2 X 4GB means less swapping of cards

I would go for the 3 x 2 gig myself.

Congrats on the purchase though!

Cheers guys, I've just gone and collected it from him and have just attached the grip. I am shocked at how large it is compared to the D80 especially with the grip

I really can't wait to get home attach a lens and add the CF card and get out there to take photos :woot:

Excellent choice Simon ... ... congratulations and great price ... ;)

I have a 4gb card in mine and have used nothing else since I got it ... ... I have a 1gb as standby but have never used it ... :D ... I would definitely go for the 2 x 4gb as you will fill anything else up far too quickly imhgo ...

:p

3 x 2gb is cheaper, more capacity and safer. Seems much the better option.

I shot 2Gb in my D200, and even shooting wildlife at 5fps, there was never a hassle about filling too quickly or changing cards.

To be really confusing, I have 2x2Gb and 1x4Gb.

Simon - with your recent lens purchases too, you will really see the benefits with the D200 especially on the levels of control and customisation.

Good luck with all the new kit.

Nice one Simon, I recently bought a D200. As for lenses, I was stuck for a week without one too :( Only had 55mm and above. I just bought the 18-70mm from onestop-digital.com

Memory card wise, I have x2 4gb and x2 1gb Extreme III's. I find that although on the 1 gig cards it says I have approx 50 images to fill the card, yet I just took almost 100 yesterday and still have some left!

Great price, just bought mine and then picked up the grip of ebay so came to a little more than you paid (only 300 shots on mine so not too bothered!) I agree with the size though, my D50 seemed like a toy compared to the 200 with grip.

With regard to memory I also had to change from SD to CF and have gone for 3x4gb and 1x2gb, never shot in RAW before but thought I really should try and the 2gb card only hold around 90 pics so needed a bit more size really.

Cheers, again guys.

I went for the 3x2GB cards as I felt more secure in having less risk to loss. If the worst happens I'd hate to think back and say I wish I'd got the 2GBs, I can always add a 4GB later if I find the 2GBs too small.

True and with prices dropping so fast in another couple of months you can probably pick up some high speed 8gbs for £20 a piece

i have a d200 and use extreme III cards that are 2gb a piece,i only shoot raw and have never had a problem with space the camera reads 133 shots when formatted first and i have 4 cards.i personally think more cards are better as they do fail..saying that iv'e never had an sandisk card fail yet..

The NAND flash market isn't going to be getting better anytime soon (too much capacity fighting for too little demand), so I'd expect to see some attractive prices in the coming months.

Welcome to the D200 club. Seems there are quite a few of us now in the Hazel Grove & South Stockport area.

Enjoy the camera
