Hi the missus has got all her music on a Windows vista pc and uses that to sync / update her ipod with iTunes
That works great but she's now got an ipad and she set up a new apple id for the ipad that is different to the one on her pc
I have tried to load her music (sync) onto the ipad but it doesn't work
I'm planning to back up her iTunes library onto an external drive delete iTunes from the pc and reload iTunes back onto the pc with the same apple id as the one on her ipad
Would that work?

As you've got a second Apple ID the system is seeing you as a different user. Set up the iPad with the same user ID as on the PC and it should allow you to download. I've got an iPhone and iPad set up on my computer and iTunes recognises each device separately, but under the same Apple ID. Also check on the number of devices you've got set up ,as iTunes only allows 5 devices.

That's brilliant thanks John I didn't realise that you could change the ID on the ipad:)
