OK folks I have set up my own challenges for 52 weeks. I did want to join the other groups but as I didn't know that I would commit I thought it safer to go alone - but same principals apply.

All photos will go to my FLICKR page and the chosen one to my WEBSITE
I have finished week 1 and week 2 just finishes on Monday for me, but I have the shot I am going with already... ...I think.

Well this is MY 52 hope you like them so far:
WEEK 1 - Lines

WEEK 2 - Light and Shadow

They are both very nice photos, like the colours on the grater and the simplicity of the silhouette of the figure leaning against the lamp post. A great start!

Hi Dade,

Those are 2 really accomplished bits of photography :notworthy:
I'm struggling to find any critique other than to say that I love them both!

How did you light the grater? The colours and reflections are superb. Very simple subject, but it has some real impact.

The second shot . . . simple, classic, elegant. It just works brilliantly

Wow many thanks Sarah!

The grater: lighting I think was flash off to left side of photo - directly below was xmas wrapping paper - to give the colour reflections.

The lamp post shot: light was as is, nothing more.

OK week 3 - yes im early but next week I will be away working so I had to get this one in quick, pressure!!!

I like that photo a lot, very colourful and creative! Excellent work!

Love the 2nd and 3rd pics, is that Gene Kelly in the 2nd?! haha

3 really good shots, I love the colours in the 3rd one. Keep up the good work

All three are very good. Love light and shadow. All very effective.

Sarah - I noticed that in fact confused me as it was taken on a table, camera straight - the top of cutlery level but the pencils off!?!
Maybe next time less haste - but it was like 3am, lol.

This week work has gotten in the way - I took photos, but general ones not specifically for my project so this one will be late :-S

I have only just found this thread. There are so many to look at this year!

Dade I love all of these, but especially the third one. The colours are just stunning and such a simple idea. I agree with Sarah that it would be best to straighten it.

One other thing - would it be possible to post the photos a bit bigger next time? They are very small on my screen and that size does not do them justice.

Jenny

JENNYB: thanks for the comments, as a forum typically they like medium photos, but if you click the links at the top you can see them in their full glory ;)

Only just found your thread, Dade - three great shots to start off with!:clap:.

How are you picking your theme for each week?

OK folks, I was well behind with this one, work got in the way.
So whilst I was working hard today to make a shot I was happy with, I have also trying to scout out things for the this weeks challenge too - trying to kill two weeks with one camera ;)

WEEK 4 - CURVES

I managed to finish this weeks challenge with time to spare, in fact the hardest part was choosing which photo I thought was best. No, im not bragging, I just liked so many of them.

WEEK 5 - LIQUID
here are a few which didnt make it

and finally the chosen one

This is a simply stunning set so far. I'll definitely be popping back regularly to see what you're up to.

The clarity, colour and set up of your week 3 offering make it my favourite, though I like every image in your thread.

I'm inclined to agree with your choice for colours but the three glasses are not far behind for me.

A very good set of images for your week 5. The glasses with coloured liquids is very cleverly done and your orange is superbly coloured. Not quite sure about the vignette on it as I want the vibrancy to flood from all four corners.

True about the vignette I played with the idea of not using it, but the top was darker than the bottom, this way it balanced in the final pic

Another amazing set from you . . . I'm struggling to pick a favourite too.

The wine glasses with the coloured liquid is really effective, but I just love the third one - no idea what it is but it's beautiful.
I also really like the vibrant colours in the one you finally chose.

Cheers Sarah: the third one, is simply bubbles inside a purpose built bubble tank.
The tank is 6"x4" and about .5" thick sealed with silicone, I poured in some bubble mixture and blew some bubbles, angled the tank and hey presto ;)

Just stumbled across your photos all are really first class,it asks the question are you a professional photographer or just a very keen amateur also how much work have you done on these in Photoshop I am not saying it makes it any easier, its just because I would like to know so maybe on day I could be posting some as good as yours fingers crossed, I still have a long way to go especially in regards to new ideas and the compositional aspects . Great set

Hey Shaun, thanks for the compliment, but professional no! Keen amateur more like it ;)

Photoshop plays a part for sure and mostly its colour enhancing or sharpening i use it for

Nope not Jelly - good idea, actually food coloured water, the glasses and camera were angled to the same level and took I the shot. when viewed in camera appears straight ;)

and thanks for the compliments Nick

wow.. glad I clicked on your thread.. so many wonderful images.. very imaginative and shot very well indeed.. think my favourite is the week 3 colour.. look forward to seeing more :)

What an excellent collection of images Dade. Beautiful colours and ideas.

So how long did you spend polishing the spoons for your colour shot?

Ian.

Excellent set of shots there... Whilst I know it didn't make it :D... I really like the planet bubble

Another amazing shot for week 6 Dade.
I love the cold blue flame against the warm liquid.

I don't know where you get your inspiration from, but the quality of these week after week is just stunning.
I can't really say anything else, other than that is turning into one of the best sets of shots that I've seen.

This week was hard for me, first I was rushing my set as I had to go away for work, then work informed I was no longer needed; ever again!
So suddenly I had a lot more time, but little enthusiasm.

So as this week was Valentines I decided the theme should be suitable to this.
I had lots of ideas but nothing really sprang out at me, hope you like the winner - some of my other options below

Week 7 - LOVE IS

and the winner is

I think the playing card shot is the winner for me. Would love to see it bigger. Strong black & red theme that kind of stays with your great interpretations of colour.

then work informed I was no longer needed; ever again!

That's bad news. Really sorry to hear that. Hope things work out for you. Maybe it'll be the kick you need to start something you do want to do.

Ian.

Yeah - I think the playing card shot is the strongest, although the colours are interesting on the rose.

Phil

Another vote for the cards
