Yup, the twinkly F90X with grip has arrived, a very nice bit of kit that can share all the D1x lenses. Can't wait to get it into action but have already been out today with the Canon (vain attempt to get some pics of big dog - don't ask) but no matter, there's a fridge full of film to get through :D

Nice! I used to use one as backup for my F4 for weddings, but the AF was actually a lot quicker than the F4.

I'm hoping I can put the D1 down and pick this up and not notice too much difference - well that's the plan and the reasoning.

Also today, I have finally finished rebuilding (last job was a new pentaprism fitting) my Zenit MT-1 - so I now also have (at last!) a half frame 35mm SLR

That was my reasoning behind getting a Canon EOS-3. Sadly, the EOS-3 handles so much better than the EOS450 Dijical job that I now want to get something that feels as good and solid as the EOS-3 film  Sadly, the only canons i've tried that have that similar feeling of solidity are the 5Dii and 7D

I have to stick with the reasoning - it's what I told Mrs A! To be honest, I think the Nikons are rather more similar than Canons - at the same level I mean. Is it perhaps that Nikon have never really aimed at the amateur (bar having N and F models) whereas Canon have aimed at everyone with differnt camera lines? Moving from camera to camera with Nikon is more likely to be less of a change simply because so many in the Nikon range share the same base configuration... I think :D

Well - obviously, it's a bit unfair on the 450D to compare it to the EOS-3, it was pretty much pitched as a pro-level camera - I've a mate who used a pair of them when working cruise ships - 16 rolls of 36 shots a night 6 days a week for 18 months and never missed a beat. I think it's probably a fair comparison against the 5Dii or 7D. It's just that it being film, I can afford the EOS-3 whereas by the time the 5Dii/7D's are cheap enough, their shutter mechanism will be toast!

I want my D1x to arrive!

I had a F90X, cost me £600! great camera, then I was offered a F100 and bought that. To be honest, apart from the F100 having an alloy body there's very little difference. I'm sure your F90X will serve you well for many years to come.

Nigel.

Thanks Nigel, it looks very nice alongside the D1x, both from the same seed I am sure. Having issudes with the D1x actually, not taken the F90 out yet as I had to run a film through the MT-1 first.
