Hi folks,

I hope I'm posting in the right forum?

I'm traveling up to the mainland directly opposite the Isle of Skye for a few days. Looking for some ideas for landscape photo opportunities on Skye, don't think we will have time to go walking far so prefer near a road, can get there either by the bridge or the glenelg ferry but don't mind how far I need to travel once there.

Hope to get some good shots on the way up, loch lomand, fort bill, glen coe, should be good :)

Thanks for any ideas,

Cheers!

Stuart

Depends on whereabouts you are going on Skye.

The obvious is the Old Man of Storr.

There are also Kilt Rock, Quirang, etc.

I was there last April, and it was fantastic.

There are a few of the photos on my Flickr page if you want to gander. You'll love it. It's difficult to take a bad photo out there. :)

Thanks Chris & hairboy, as for where I'm going on skye... I'll be going over specifically for photos so really wherever you send me lol, will be back up in august again so can fill in any gaps that I miss then

Edit: that second one at Elgol, particularly like that one, the light coming in from the left, nice :)

Dunvegan, (i think that's something like the correct spelling) it's nearer the top end as I remember but stayed on a campsite overlooking the sea (which seems more like a lake because of all the islands) but it's a truly beautiful spot. Terrific restaurant in a converted school there too. Have fun!

Tarskavaig on the Sleat peninsula is good for sunsets. Although the sun won't be setting behind the Cuillins until mid May there's still a chance of colourful skies. The sun will be behind the Cuillins at Elgol in the next few days and that can produce stunning sunsets. It is also great for bad weather photos. So take some camera protection. Also If you plan shooting late in the day at Elgol, take a torch as the beach is very rocky.
Somewhere else you could visit late in the day is Eilean Donan Castle. Its on the mainland at Dornie on the A87. From the car park the sunset will be virtually behind the castle over the next few days.

Rogdodge: cheers for the tip, and if theres good food nearby, bonus! :)

Happy Haggis: thanks for the sunset info, taken note, been to eilean donan castle a couple of times, had a borrowed camera with me last year and it was right at the middle of the day so the light wasn't the best, at least this time its my own camera so I have an idea of how to use it (slightly) properly
