Hi everyone.

We're back again as sponsors :woot:
We've been really busy at ISL recently - having started to run Morley Camera Club (link here) and having a lot of new faces coming through the doors every other week.

We're continuing to develop our second studio now - it's going to be massive - about 90 ft x 40 ft with a large (24ft) infinity curve. It won't be open for a few months yet, but development will be updated on our website shortly.

As the days are getting longer, we're able to offer more natural light studio hire too. A lot of our photographers that come and hire our facilities always comment on the great natural light we have. So make the most of that lovely golden sunlight whilst the weather is nice.

We've sorted out our pricing too for studio hire:

Hourly Rate: £25 for the first hour, and £15 for subsequent hours
Half Day: £65, starting at either 8:30am or 1:30pm, or selected evenings by arrangement.
Full Day: £125, from 8:30am until 5:30pm

We will stay open later for you too - if you book 2 or more hours after 5PM :)

We've also started running our own in-house photography courses based on the experience of Lee, Matt & Lynsey. We're branding these sessions by 'Learn @ ISL' and a list of what we offer can be found here:

We've had some very successful 'Learn in a day' sessions which take you through the basics of studio lighting, metering, use of equipment etc and we're now running these every other week to keep up with demand! Keep an eye on the 'Events' section for group shoots and courses coming up soon.

I wish you every success with this venture. Personally I've never known a hire studio (other than the high end pro studios in London and a few 'glamour' studios) to generate enough income to survive.

I do a small amount of studio hire myself, my advantage of course is my pro lighting equipment and pro experience but it doesn't generate a worthwhile amount of income and tends to conflict with my other, much more lucrative work so I may just refer people to you instead now.

Thanks for that :) The studio doors have been open since January - and every week is seeing it busier and busier. But, you are right - studio hire alone isn't enough to keep the landlord away from the door :). We do a lot of our own portrait photography in our studios too, as well as a decent range of different courses (digital workflow, processing techniques etc) and group shoots.

And of course - togsPrint.com take over the other half of the building. We are quite lucky that we have our hands in "a few pies" which have been us pretty resilient to the ever lasting economic crisis!
 
I hope that you blossom well with the new studio. I think there is a market there for someone who can offer people the training and guidance they seek in a friendly environment, without the arrogance and chipped shoulder approach we can see from the "pro" sector these days.

Thank you :) We started the courses slowly and got a feel for what people need. We've had a couple of the "intro to studio" course days now, the largest group being 5 people (we cap it at that) and everyone has always really enjoyed the day. Nice and informal - everyone gets what they want out of it. I think we had a member on here from Staffordshire come this weekend too :)

Again, spaces are strictly limited to six, and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Just £30 secures your place on this shoot. Shooting from 7pm - 9pm.
