I was just perusing a local newspaper's terms and conditions for submission of material and it goes thus:

6. By sharing any contribution (including any text, photographs, graphics, video or audio) with Tindle Newspapers Ltd. you are granting Tindle Newspapers Ltd an unconditional, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully transferable, perpetual worldwide licence to use, publish and/or transmit, and to authorise third-parties to use, publish and/or transmit your content in any format and on any platform, whether now known or invented subsequently. You acknowledge that we have no obligation to pre-screen, monitor, review, or edit any content posted by you and other users on any Tindle Newspapers Ltd site. You acknowledge that the technical processing and transmission of the Tindle Newspapers Ltd site may involve changes to content to conform and adapt to technical requirements of networks or devices. We assume no responsibility for the deletion of postings or failure to store postings.
7. Copyright in your contribution will remain with you and this permission is not exclusive, so you can continue to use the material in any way including allowing others to use it.

Is this normal? I know copyright has been discussed many times before on this forum so we won't go there, I just wondered if these are standard T's and C's in the industry.

NB I was surprised by the poor writing style wherein there are two instances where there are no spaces between the full stop and the sentence following.

why not look up other newspapers ands see their Terms and conditions

A lot of local newspapers, those run by newquest for example have facebook '[Place] Camera Club' groups - plenty of t&cs attached and just a way for them to harvest photos for this publications. Quite a few people post to them, from a non-photographers with a phone to people who should know better.

Yes, standard T&C's for newspapers and TV companies etc.

Yes I could have looked at loads of other newspapers T's and C's but I knew someone would already have done that so I wouldn't have to. Let's face it, terms and conditions are dry, dusty boiler-plate stuff, who just clicks ACCEPT when offered the blurb on a website -- everybody.

I don't know if I'm missing something but if I submit a photo to something like this I would expect that you're giving all rights over to them  :$

It’s why I don’t enter those photo competitions it’s just a way to collect peoples work for free. not saying that my work is anything special but I’m not giving it away for free
