Hello

I will list the tools I have at hand
Canon 5D mark III
Canon 580 ex
Canon 430 ex II
Canon 430 ex II

4x yongnuo RF 603

Now is it possible to place one trigger on the camera
1 trigger under the 580 set to master
And fire the 2x 430s in slave?

Will this work?

I need the other two triggers for something else.

I have but its not working. I wondered if there is something I am doing wrong. Sorry my opening post may sound rude. I was just writing it on an ipad and rushed it.

The problem is I need the 580 off camera so to trigger than I needed the Yongnuos

No. RF-603 is not a TTL trigger.

No I dont want TTL. Everything I do is manual. Are you sure what I want to do works? I cant make it work?

It will work, but not with auto-TTL. Guns must not be in master or slave mode, than engages E-TTL... but you haven't got E-TTL triggers.

Trigger on camera, one receiver per gun, guns in manual

There seems to be confusion here.

I can use the triggers to fire the flashes. Thats not what I am trying to do here.

I am trying to fire 3 flashes using only two triggers.

See this diagram

Because I know the 580 can fire the 430s optically I wanted to trigger the 580 remotely using a yonguno trigger pair.

If they're in manual mode (all of them) and the two 430s set as optical slaves, I can't see why it won't work..

I have done it with two. First one triggered by RF, second as optical slave. What's not working for you? What do you mean 580 set to master?

No I can't either. But it doesnt seem to

Canon's system for the 430EX II is "optical wireless" which is not the same as an "optical" slave.

- with the Canon optical wireless system, the master sends instructions to the slave(s) via a series of pre-flashes that come just before the main flash. These instructions tell the slave what mode to use (ETTL, Manual, or Multi), what power to fire at, and what sync speed to use.

You could as you are using everything manually, pick up a couple of cheap manual "optical slave flashes" to use instead of the 430EX II or just buy 2 extra RF-603's?

so its not possible?

No. As per above: trigger on camera, one receiver per gun, guns in manual. That will work.

Canon guns don't have a conventional optical slave like Nikon guns do.

But I guess with two YN622C you can fire the three flashes.
Or, at least, I hope so, because I thinking of buying a pair. ;)

No, that won't work either. Tx on camera, one Rx for each gun. The 622 bypasses and replaces all optical remote transmission with radio.

Really?
In my case, I thought that with one 622 on camera and the 580EX (as master) on another 622, the 580EX would be capable of commanding the 430EX II as slave.

Maybe I'm being to optimistic. :)
I have to check this out...

I would get the 622c you can buy one for each and then you will be able to run manual or ttl and with added benefit of changing each power settings remotely. just set them on different channels.

I wanted those but out of budget.

Can Canon's new STE3 change the settings off the Canon 430 EX II or just the new 600RT?
