Is this photo possible?

I don't see why the OP thinks it isn't possible. Seems straight forward to me. Not saying I could do it but doesn't appear that difficult. Ball in air captured at right angle and time blocks out sun.

Easily 'shopped'

That said it's just as difficult (or as unlikely) to get the ball in any other single position as the perfect eclipse. Totally possible by chance as any 'miss'.

high speed shutter.. keep throwing the ball up until you get the shot. could have taken 1 attempt could have taken 1000. or of course as there looks like zero detail on the ball could have just splodged a spot over it in photoshop in about 2 seconds

Seems perfectly possible to me...it's purely about timing, I also don't think it's faked as you can just make out some detail bit get ball...

There's whole websites for perfectly dedicated to photos...acts of serendipity

Mrs Nod caught the sun while we were on holiday but wouldn't let me take a shot of it shining out of her arrrrr..... fundamental orifice!

Not got the patience myself but have seen swans leaving con-trails etc - on slides (harder to fake than digital.)

Serendipity....I think that's it. I guess the photographer had quite a surprise when he looked at his images, it is amazing. What's also amazing, considering their relative size and distance from Earth, that to us the moon and sun appear to be exactly the same size. Considering that the moon is moving away from Earth and the Sun is getting larger that won't always be the case. I remember reading that condition was somehow linked to the presence of life on Earth, interesting!

Now that I can do in photoshoppe....thats the older version : - )
