I am just wondering if there is any call for 35mm cameras anymore?

I am going to take some items to a shop that buys secondhand, but he was saying that it's unlikely that they will want the bodies, as they are hard to sell on.

I couldn't tell him much about the lenses...I am struggling to understand the lenses available for the DSLRs of today...let alone older lenses!!! He said he might be interested, depending on the fit of them. How can I tell what camera they will fit??

Is there much call for these sort of things anymore??

Yep there is still a call for lens and 35mm bodies although I would have thought you may get more, or shift them more easily on Ebay.

If you have bodies and lens to go with them then logically they should fit, but without seeing them (pictures :)) it is difficult to say much more than that.

If you have Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus names on the lens then they will only fit those types makes of cameras.

However if the lens are say, Mitkon, Paragon, Vivitar, Tamron, Sigma etc then they could any number of different bodies.

You could look on the rear lens cap or around the mount itself and see if any of the following markings/names are present.

OM = Olympus
N/Ai or N = Nikon
Ca = Canon
PK or PKA = Pentax

I am sure there are some more just can't think of the top of my head.

I think it depends on which bodies do you want to sell.

Everything can be sold but with the correct price. The problem is that some people think that they have some treasures at home just because the cameras are old...

I bought many 35mm cameras during the last year and I'm allways looking for more. Here in Portugal I noticed that we are getting more people shooting film...

Thanks for that...I will go look and see if they have initials on the mounts!
There a couple of different lenses...sigma, praktica, couple of teleconverters, and a few more I can't remember off the top of my head.
I might see what the chap says tomorrow, he suggested eBay too, but I hate dealing with eBay, if I can avoid it I would prefer!

No there is no call at all for 35mm kit so if you want to send me all you have I will happily dispose of it for you

Seriously though have a look at the film threrads and you will see that there are many still just on film and those like me who use film and digital.Not knowing what kit you have I a guessing but most lenses can be used on digital bodies and can have quite substantial values although the bodies probably less so

i wouldn't have a clue how the use the lenses even if I could get them to fit my canon! What would I have to buy to make them fit? I am new to all this, and am jsut getting used to my DSLR, let alone trying to figure out all the 35mm stuff too!!!

I don't want to get into trouble listing the stuff I have because i haven't done 100 posts yet, so cannot sell, but it would be interesting to see if I have anything of value!!

It sounds like your stuff isn't worth a fortune (even a small one) but put a film through and you might surprise yourself at how good the shots are. If you have no idea what you're doing stick a 100 ISO/ASA film in, set the shutter speed dial to 1/60th (or 1/125th for a longer lens) and the aperture at f8 and take some pictures in daylight. You won't go far wrong and the film's latitude will get you out of trouble.

You'll then know if you want to keep the gear or buy a couple of beers with the proceeds.

You need an adapter to fit the lenses to your Canon and most lenses can fit a Canon easily with the correct adapter,to be able to better advise we need to know what fitting the lenses are so a picky of lenses and camera would help

I think I will see what the guy says tomorrow. I wouldn't mind keeping the sigma lens if he says I can get it to fit...and I have got a huge lens too, so might see if that's any use to me.
If the lenses fit on using adapters, will they AF, or will it only MF?

It'll be manual focus only - some adaptors will support the Focus confirm light/beep, but you'll still be doing the turning.

You could always put up a few pics of the film kit you have, somebody on here will identify it for you, or as sugested by Colpepper, stick a film in and take some shots.:cool:

Dave.
