To a list of land/field owners...

Reason being I'd like to set up in a field where a barn owl hovers just after sunset..

I don't want to trespass and presumably the land owner is unlikely to find out, but I just want to be official and curteous..

Is it not near a farm where you could find out? If they don't own it they might know.

Probably the best bet! But then again...if you're going to be hidden well enough that a barn owl isn't going to notice you, then a I don't think farmer Jiles will either

Knock on a door or 2, if they seem funny about it, offer them a print in return ....maybe offer them one if they are ok with it too!!

Thanks for the replies...my OP came up a bit short...the field is alongside quite a busy road, other than that very isolated..

There is a house a little further up the road, though it isn't a farmhouse etc. so I'll knock and ask there I think. Also there's a farm around the corner from me so I'll ask them..

Other than that and perhaps Googling to see if there's a local list of land owners, I'm stuck..

When I used to fly hot air balloons we always had to get permission from the land owner before we drove the retrieve truck into a field, luckily country/farmer types usually know who owns which fields and are usually helpful!

Failing that try the locals at the village pub!

If you have a local Ramblers Society they would probably know - the usually know the local areas pretty well and may be able to tell who owns the land and rights of way etc.
