IS there a reason this is so cheap?!?!

Old manual focus lens Matt. The price might go up a bit but not too much. max f6.3 though. It might be fun to play with but I think you might have trouble getting anything really sharpe.

I went through a phase of buying cheap manual lenses but to be honest they are not going to touch most decent Sigma lenses.

If you can get it for a few quyid go for it and have some fun. It's good to play with manual focus anyway but you might find the aperture a bit limiting.

Oh - and you will need the M42 adapter

Oh b****r, thought I was on to a winner :(

Manual focus is good to use (got an MF film camera) but it would be a pain for birds. Put the money towards a Bigma me thinks.
 
for a start the fungus is starting to grow, f6.3, and probably not that sharp
 
Hehe - yes I think using it for moving targets would be particularly difficult. And fungus is something to watch for - if you start using a narrow apperture it's going to show.

Maybe you should set yourself a max budget and just get one of these for the hell of it - maybe not this mouldy one though :-)
