Is there a Canon EF 300mm f/4 no IS version?

Hi,

there sure is, I think it's discontinued now but can be picked up s/h and not too long ago they were going for under £400, however now, with the recent price rises a good used one might be a tad dearer.

ahh that would be why I cant find it for sale.
Now, the question of is there an alternate and is the IS worth paying over double?
 
there was one sold on here a little while ago and i cant beleive how quick it whent... why not go for the 400mm f5.6 which is also relativly cheap
 
It's supposedly even sharper than the IS version too. I have the IS and it's superb, so if the earlier version is better... well, it must be good.

The only concern I'd have is with servicing. I'm not totally sure That Canon support it now, but I'm not certain, I may well be wrong on that point.
 
I have one, got it only a month or so ago for around £400. :p

If you get in quick they are a bargain, but they usually disappear (same with used IS ones) within minutes of them being posted!
 
well you know what to do if you want to get shot of it :p
 
There is one in Jacobs in Birmingham - second hand. I think it is the non-IS although at £799 it would be worth checking. From memory it comes with the case and all pacaging, with 12 months warranty which is a bonus.

no ive got the 70-200 with a x1.4 extender but i wouldnt mind that with the x1.4 aswell :D

im finding it really hard to choose.

1. the 300 f4 will be faster, higher IQ but it would restrain me a bit.

2. the 100-400 might not be very high quality and its 4.5-5.6 which seems slow. But it gives me much more freedom

If I got the 100-400 I would sell my brand new Canon 70-300 IS so I would get some money back.

Basically im worried that the IQ on the 100-400 isnt all that good as it only have 4 stars here

300 f4L non IS for that much?? Asking a bit much. I paid £350 for me. :|

Define IQ - it can't be measure mechanically it is a personal thing.

FM give it an overall review of 9.1, with the price rating pulling it down (whereas the place you linked gave it 5 star for price).

Test freaks gave it 9.3. Amazon has a 5 star average.

£350 :lol: thats dirt cheap... what would be the chances of someone selling theirs before i leave on sunday :shake:
 
I dont know but im considering selling mine for £500 to be delivered by Sunday. :lol:
