Is the upper swing arm on a gimbal head Arca Swiss compatible?

Yes, both are!

I assume you mean the vertical part? If so then yes the Wimberley is. Attached is an image of my home made Flash bracket which I use on my Wimberley 2 - it has an Arca type clamp.

Thanks!
Could either of you give me an approximate measurement from the vertical to centerline? (center of the clamp/lens barrel)

On my Wimberley 2 the distance from the flat face of the vertical arm to the center of the Arca clamp is about 75mm. Hope this helps.

What are you trying to mount on the bracket? If it is a Flash then I already have a workable design (height adjustable) that can be built for about £15.

Are you after something like this?

Yes, thank you.
It's actually to mount a red dot sight for photographing very fast subjects (BIF) with long FL's (narrow FOVs). I already make/sell a hotshoe picatinny mount, but having something mounted in the hotshoe can be problematic if you wear a hat (and many do). So I'm looking to make a mount that can optionally place it off camera.

Quite a while ago I did see a YouTube video of some people using reflex sights with long lenses. Didn't seem to work very well for thrm but these sights are often very cheap so it is worth a try!

I use one, but only when I'm otherwise having a very hard time acquiring/tracking a subject. It's very situational and a bit of "pray and spray," but when nothing else is working well it can help.
