Is the SB-26 any good for off camera flash?

Rubbish....I'll give you what you paid for it so that you don't lose out :naughty:

Seriously though, it's one of the Strobist staples, due to having a built-in optical slave.

They can go for £100+ on Fleabay :cuckoo:

was it fleabay? cheeky b****r, thats a great price for a pretty good old flash, Nikon got in there early before canon on the proper off camera flashes with slaves and built in pc ports

Just picked one up for £48 was wondering what its like.

I've been using it for about 6 months for Strobist-style photography. No serious problems except the slow re-charge times when using at full power or 1/2 power. It seems to eat the batteries like there's no tomorrow so I've switched to NiMH rechargeables. Also, it will only let you go down to 1/16 power while SB28 (I have one of those too) will go down to 1/64.

I prefer the SB28 but SB26 isn't bad.

See my flick gallery (www.flickr.com/photos/david_kittos) - my Strobist set contains examples of what you can do with SB26 & SB28.
