Is the D7100 worth the extra money over D7000?

Title says it all really.

I am upgrading from D3100 and have budget for D7100 or should I take a D7000 instead?

Anyone any thoughts???

Didn't rate mine, serious focus issues and took it back ... shop demo had the same problem

Thanks Gramps, you mean the D7100 was no good?

Exactly, not a touch on the D7000 for focus ... don't know if it's a general problem or a few lemons but tread carefully would be my advice, paying double the price of a D7000 you don't expect worse results.

As I said on your similar thread yesterday.

D3100 Upgrade or buy new lens

I think you should look at your lenses too, then maybe plump for the D7000 rather than D7100 to fund those glass upgrades.

If you're shooting kids Rugby, a 2.8 zoom lens could really help you out.

I personally think a D7000 with 2.8 glass is going to serve you better than a D7100 with your entry level zoom lenses.

I was trying to post this earlier but kept getting “The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.”

Anyway, if I have the money I would go for the best. The D7000 is a great camera but currently there is a better one on the market, the D7100. We can all argue whether the difference in price is justifiable but I am sure we all agree that the D7100 is the better camera.

I still think that you should give lenses the first priority here, you will be changing and upgrading camera bodies while still have the same good glass.

If you have the cash then go for the D7100 with F2.8 zooms or F1.4/1.8 primes.

If you are on a budget then go for F2.8 zooms or F1.4/1.8 primes first, then a D7000 if you have any money left.

This is what I would do. Hope it helps

lens always come first. esp with the latest camera like D7100 where its sensor outperform many lens.

I upgraded my Nikon D300s to the D 7100. I can see a large jump in picture quality. The pictures has a lot more detail and seems a lot sharper.

But the flash exposure on the D7100 seems to work different compaired to the D300s. The pictures on the D7100 are a lot more underexposed. But I can easily turn up the ISO on the D7100. Using 800 ISO or even 1600 ISO makes good pictures.

It has got a faster autofocus compaired to the D300s (using the same lens)

But the sound of the D7100 tells me it is not a semi-pro camera.

What focusing issues did you experience on the D7100?

Start HERE I experienced unresolvable focus issues with multiple lenses, as did Carl here and there are other reports on the 'net'.
