I have this photo over on Flickr...

Ile de Re Shop Front by darren1978 (visit dfphotos.co.uk), on Flickr

It has over 1,000 views. Don't get me wrong, its great that that many people have looked at it, but its not a great photo and hasn't been posted in many groups. This photo has way more views than anything else in my flickr stream.

This makes me suspicious.

Unfortunately, at the time of posting this image on flickr I was not a 'pro' user so didn't have access to my stats.

Is there a way of checking if its being used elsewhere on the internet without my knowledge/permission?

Incidentally, I am now a 'pro' user, but still can't see how looking at my stats would indicate if one of my images was being used elsewhere? I know it lists 'search engines', 'other sites' and 'unknown sources' as referrers other than flickr, but how do you drill down further?

do you have the option enabled that lets flickr API use your photos?

i had an image that had a odd amount of hits and it turned out it was this and a shop product page was using flickrs API engine to display images of that item.

if the views are registering on your flickr then it'll either be that or someone has hotlinked the image. another reason for watermarking.

How do I check that?

As for watermarking, I reckon thats the way I'll have to go. I don't suppose there's a way of adding a watermark to photos alreayd on flickr? Don't particularly fancy having to trawl through my hard copies to add one and then re-uploading to flickr

on the "your account" page, under the "profile" heading click "if it's searchable" and tick the "Hide your photos from searches on 3rd party sites that use the API, including Yahoo! Image Search?" box.

as far as i know youll have to reupload each image, you can replace photos though so will not affect existing linked images.

Not my experience with a Pro account. Every time you replace/republish a photo it creates a new URL for the replacement image file.

Links to the Flickr page remain as its URL doesn't change, but images embedded on another site get broken.

By product is that if you want to break anyone illicitly linking directly to your Flickr image, that provides a way to do it.
