Is my lens broken?

No
I have a Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED which I am using on a Nikon D5100 and it doesn't auto-focus. Everything else seems to work fine on the lens but what ever settings I try it won't AF so I have to manually focus. I also had the same issue with this lens on my old D40.

Has anyone had a similar issue, if so how can I fix it or get it fixed?

Thanks

the D40 and D5100 do not have a focus motor built into the body but if the 55-200 is AF-S it should autofocus on those bodys.

^ Correct. The lens has an auto focus motor built-in, hence 'AF-S'. So it should auto focus.

Anyone near you with a nikon that can test with/for you?

No there isn't unfortunately.

As mentioned, I had originally purchased the lens with my Nikon D40 and have tried it out with my brand new D5100 and still no luck.

I would assume that the focus motor inside the lens has broken but I'm not too clued up on these sorts of things.

Thanks

Take it to a camera shop and see if they will test it on a camera there.

or try fixation
