As the title says really.

I get that the specs are better on paper but how much really world difference would upgrading make? I've had my 60D over 6 years and I see the 80D has been out 3 years so am I better off waiting to see if a new model comes out? Money is a factor (isn't it always ;) ) and I'd probably be looking at like new used, which might also help persuade my wife. But if the real world difference is negligible should I just wait?

Thanks in advance, Mike

How much of a factor is money? What's the budget? Would you have to sell any current gear to fund the new camera?

If you don't mind buying grey markey then the likes of HDEW have the 80D - minus box, but with all the bits and bobs that would come with, for £569 - £609 boxed. I think it would be a very nice upgrade, depending on what you like in a camera. You'd get faster fps [7 vs 5], touch screen, better ISO performance, higher res [24 vs 18mp] more focus points [45 vs 9!] better dynamic range, wi-fi, compatibility with your smartphone via the Canon app, and a better viewfiner. I'm sure there's more improvements, like a headphone port and some other video features if that matters to you?

As Keith says above there are lots of upgrades between the two bodies but only you can decide if those upgrades will get images you couldn't get now. Is sensor noise a problem, do you need not just want more resolution, have you got enough focus points or will more improve your hit rate. Etc etc.
I do totally understand wanting better I'm a sucker for that myself as the bank manager could confirm. If you want it and can honestly afford it then enjoy yourself even if you don't need it.

There will always be a new model due out within a year or so - it's a fact of marketing life marketing! As above, if you want/need the extra features that an upgrade (not familiar with Canons so assume it's an upgrade rather than just a newer version of the same level body) and can afford it without making any real sacrifices, go for it and enjoy!

Thanks for the replies folks, you've been very helpful. £900+ for new from WEX etc is a bit much but £600 sounds a lot better, which is what good used ones are. So I'll take a look at the grey market ones. My 60D seems to perform well until you touch the ISO so it would be nice to upgrade. I've had a lot of fun with my 60D and dread to think what the shutter count is so I probably wouldn't get much for it so would probably be better as a second body than the money Id get. I'll have to have a look.

Forgot to post a link, here you go: https://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/canon-eos-80d-body-4173-p.asp

On the main Canon dslr page they have it without box too for a bit cheaper.

If you have a few lenses the 60D would be nice to keep as a second body if you do go for it

I bought my 80D from Camera Jungle, described as 'mint' and to be fair, it was. I paid £750.
As an upgrade, it will be in mega pixels, focus points, and noise handling. Think of it as a 7dii lite with a newer sensor.
I'm very happy with mine and can't see a need to upgrade for a good while yet.

Sold my 60D and bought an 80D a while ago from HDEW and yes, I noticed immediately an improvement with my lenses.

You would probably get £200 to £250 for your 60D so it’s only like spending £350 really lol

That's good news about the differences and that you managed to sell your 60D. Can I ask how you sold it? Pivate of through someone like LCE?

You can sell on this forum in the classified section. I've just sold a camera through mpb.com They give you a quote, then send a courier to pick it up.You'd get more selling it privately but there's no hassle.

There's improvement in dynamic range and ISO capabilities. The biggest difference with be focussing using PDAF for video. I've toyed with the idea of swapping my 70D for an 80D too.

They offered me such a low price I'd rather keep it as a second :(

Sorry for the late reply.

I traded it in to MPB against a 70-200 l f4 which is excellent

I believe you get more when you are also buying (but could be wrong)

I sold up my gear in 2011 and the body was 50D.
Last year I decided that I was missng photography so I bought an 80D.
I've never used a 60D but the jump from a 50D to an 80D was certainly noticeable in many ways.
