Hi Ive not posted in here before but i figured this was the best place to come for some advice!

I have a Nikon d3000 and my dad found 2 old flashes from his old olympus slr. I have a Cobra Auto 210 and a Bell and Howell auto 20TZ.

Does anyone know whether these are safe to use with my Nikon ?

Thanks :)

Not on camera, no, however ocf with some radio triggers, should be fine :) bit familiar with these flash guns, so I might be missing something :)

Only if you can get a Nikon hotshoe adaptor for the d3000!

They certainly won't work in any sort of auto mode but I would think it VERY inadvisable to put either of these old flashes anywhere near your modern camera anyway.

a member here [Cowasaki.? ] posted about how to measure the trigger voltage of your flash and the compare with voltage of your camera

This might be interesting for you.

edit - the link is for Canon EOS cameras, but Nikon should not be far off. Also you can look up your old flash in the list. :)

thanks for the help everyone. I have actually had the bell and howell one on my camera and used it before i read up on the dangers! But im too scared to try it again  Looking at that list i wont be putting the cobra one anywhere near it !!

You can use it on camera if you use something like a Wein SafeSync!
