Is FB dying for people and just becoming adverts and scams?

Always loved FB for years but lately seems to have taken a major dive, from a personal level its all bad adverts and scams.
I love the forum pages for all my fun stuff but me and most of my friends have just gravitated to WhatsApp groups for the fun side.

like this all day long you report it and FB will say 7 days later the AD didn't violate its terms?

When a friend posts something and it pops up on your feed 5 days later. for some reason FB is dead set on flooding my feed with militaristic and glorious British military stuff. No matter if I ignore it, or choose not interested or even 'do not show this stuff', more and more of it scrolls by.

yeah I am getting flooded by disguised racism at the moment, pages that always end up with ugly comments like "before the invasion"

TBH FB has been like this for years, delaying/hiding relevant posts and showing scammy adverts.

its is and i have always decided the personal benefits are worth it being free
but i must admit if it offered a small subscription model i would be interested
lately for me its not adverts its the awful hate being spread

More spam posts - AI images with AI captions that are just so wrong. A lot of people fall for it.

Nothing quite matches the hate that is being spouted on X these days. I go on there because some of those I follow (UK Waxwings and Hawfinches) seem to be on X only. Threads is just banal, and BlueSky is one platform too many.

yeah i seem to just see American hate and Jewish hate all out competing each other

I have been coming to the same conclusions myself. I have had my feeds pretty well managed for years, but recently the AI and scam rubbish has really escalated. It must be something to do with the Tech Bros getting together around Trump and Musk. I need FB to a degree though for business purposes - websites that need an FB presence to draw in new customers - but I'm beginning to think it's counter-productive if I spend more time managing the feed unsuccessfully than actually interacting with potential customers. I have never bothered with the X.t***face site nor can I be bothered with B=FB clones.

yep its like it has proper taken a very dark turn where hate is now common place

Just ignore the stuff you don't like or disagree with. I am getting a lot of golf related stuff and airshows, plus motorcycle legend Alan Milyard and his wonderful creatons so I am quite a happy bunny.

I only go on there for some of the groups like wildlife/nature
Especially the butterflies and dragonflies groups, some very nice helpful people in those groups
I used to engage with some more general local interest and traffic groups but gave up as too much nastiness wasn’t worth the hassle

love facebook :)

If you know how to us it then its fantastic.. makes the world a smaller place.. I am in a few groups that are populated by poeple in same boat as me or same interests and these groups dont get spammed and are a great source of information..

I just bought an interrail ticket to travel round europe and i even found a group dedicated to this ticket for older people haha

Never signed up to FB and most of the posts above confirm why I would not wish to join.

Dave

@KIPAX Well done for going for Interrail - I did it when I was 22 and it's still something I look back on with great memories. Worth a separate thread to discuss where you plan to go etc.

There's definitely more adverts and spam, but it's not unmanageable yet.

We were in Dobbies a few weeks ago and my wife said "we should get some grass seed for when we are away". That's it, nothing more. She even paid for it. A few hours later on my Facebook feed I'm getting adverts for grass seed. Loose lips sink ships..... :$

I get posts that my friends make at the top of my feed, the a mix of posts from pages and groups with healthy dollop of ads for stuff I've searched for. It's far too useful to me for connecting with actual real life friends that live outside "pop round of a cup of tea" range to abandon.

I think if they changed the main Feed back to the content you've chosen to see (friends, groups etc.) it would be a significant improvement, this is still available under Feeds->All but speaking to people most don't know this so they don't use it. I've noticed over the last couple of years a real drop in friends using Facebook and speaking to some of them I think the useless default feed is a big part of that, looking through my feed right now there's almost none of the content I've chosen to follow because it's flooded with posts I have no interest in.

I don't want to see content I've not chosen to follow anyway but the posts it adds are frequently a poor choice, I suspect it's based on what friends have been interacting with however that doesn't mean I want to see them. If I set certain groups I don't want to see as hidden instead of Facebook thinking I don't like that content, it thinks I must really like it and starts flooding my feed with other similar groups.

I see constant posts on my feed about ham radio, in which I have absolutely no interest or knowledge, and AFAIK none of my FB friends are into it either. The only thought I've had on this is that I once asked a question on here about 2-way radio, https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/t...e-talkie-recommendations.663569/#post-7980731
And I did click on the Tony Hancock recording on YouTube, I forget what it was called, but radio ham or similar. No other explanation comes to mind.
