Is DVD copying legal in the UK yet?

Yeah, I'm aware of it being basically permission to back up stuff you already own - just hoping to be able to take a few movies on holiday in August/September - passes the time in the air! I know that one date given was June 1st but since that passed with no fanfare I guessed it had been put back...

i thought along as you owned it already it was not illegal as your making a copy incase you damage the original

Technically, it's still illegal but as Neil points out, Joe Blogs copying films for his own use is unlikely to have problems. Sharing ripped films with friends could land him in deeper waters though.
For the last flights, I bought a couple of films and downloaded some stuff through iPlayer - kept me occupied for the 4 hours each way and was worth every penny the films cost me. They aren't films I already have on DVD so no doubling up.
