just had a delivery by DPD sat in all day waiting it turned up at 5.p.m sat looking out the window ,driver got out opened the van shut it up and drove off , I hared out saw where he went and got in my car and chased him down the road . caught the tw** and ragged him . he opened the van and it was right at the back door . he then had to drive back and deliver to the house ..
got one caught in the act at last .. as you can probably realise I was probably foaming at the mouth and anyone that knows me will know not to cross me in that mood , got my delivery bet lots of others don't though ..
no wonder stuff goes missing , 5.pm and his van was full to the back doors ????

so todays total toss pot award goes to DPD Dopey Parcel Decliners

Good on you for catching the skiving tosser Jeff. (y)

As a rule, I find DPD to be the best of all the courier firms, but Hermes drivers make me want to commit murder.

On a slight sidenote....

I have a small parcel due to come via EVRi who are Hermes in a new coat!

I hope it works as I will likely be buying a few more times from the same supplier.

Yeah they have rebranded as EVRi due to all the negativity about them.

Typical of bad management. Rather than spend the money on improving their services; they just try to cover it up by rebranding - shame on them.

You can't polish a turd though, so a pointless exercise really . . .

I must live in a sweet spot I get pretty regular deliveries from Hermes/EVRi, DPD and Amazon they all pretty much arrive on time, Hermes/ERVi are so predictable I can even go out if it's being delivered by them as they arrive between 4 and 4:30pm every time regardless of what day it is.

I think most use self employed drivers so it's probably just luck of the draw.

Yeah worked out why he pulled up ,opened the door and drove off and why he had to return and hand over parcel ,it’s because it’s all logged on a g.p.s tracker and van anylyzer .. all he would then have to log was no one home .. ..

Oh yeah Friday night pubs are open ,or mrs wants to go shopping .. I’m in two minds to phone the depot manager but probably in on the scams themselves , bet half his undelivered load goes to a auction house somewhere

DPD drivers are all self employed and can do what they want.

Waste of time making any sort of complaint.

I am not in a position to assess uk based deliveries by dpd , however I had a number of parcels sent internationally from the uk using dpd and the service at both ends , UK and France , has been excellent . No damage to goods, no delays ( barring covid related issues) , and a tracking service regularly updated ensuring that I could be at home to take delivery.

Atm , imo , it’s one of the best courrier services, at least internationally.

DPD has the best service for me mainly due to the tracking but they are all good even Hermes, no complaints at all.

Possibly Amazon, I’ve received a couple of deliveries that Amazon said were lost in transit and wanted to refund. Amazon nearly always leave it at the door (photographed) and run but I have no problem with that.

I find DPD realy good I am working a contract as a network engineer for one of the big IT companies and they send me Aruba switches and boxes of parts for my jobs to my home and DPD are absolutely spot on , they send me a text with an hour slot every time and its allways good.

In my experience, it depends a lot on the driver. Used to have several that would recognise me in the street. Balanced by the ones that are astonished by the fact you open your door, just when they are filing a ‘not at home’ report.

Absolutely!
My (Hermes) one was completely useless. There was even a thread on my local community hub about her incompetence!
Several times she left parcels on the door step when it was raining without knocking. They were usually found a day or so later dripping wet.
I refused a delivery that had gone missing for weeks, ( I'd been refunded) 2 days later it was back on my door step ..
It got so bad I ended up emailing the CEO several times, each with a separate compliant.

"She" is no longer delivering, certainly not here anyway. The guy that has replaced her is spot on. can't fault him.

DPD and Royal Mail are the only couriers I chose to use but it seems to be a post code lottery, the DPD tracking and delivery window have never failed.

DHL express have been added to my crap list, when they came on Thursday the lad ignored the bell, three knocks on the door and waited 9 seconds (cctv footage) then left without leaving a card. Class act :/

If I could choose, I'd have Hermes instead of RM/Parcelfarce. All the other delivery companies manage to get the right address but RM/PF have problems with numbers, street names, postcodes etc..

RM is faultless here.

DPD guy recently delivered to me he explained that he has a time slot in which he has to delive, he had to wait 25 seconds before he could hand over parcel

Same here; monitoring our CCTV system I have watched the DPD van pull up on our driveway and the driver will sit in his van for a period of time before getting out. On more than one occasion I have even gone out & stood by the van door waiting. He told me he has to wait until the actual delivery time is reached.

That’s bonkers isn’t it? I’ve seen the same thing but assumed they were doing ’paperwork’ or hunting for the package. Reminds one of jokes about German “precision” … and DPD was German and is now French I think … .

When that happens here, I go out and chat with the driver until the slot opens and if they're running close to late, I have been known to take it off them from the van to help them win a moment or 2.

Thinking about this I wonder if originally it was intended to keep customers happy — if they tell you it’s going to be delivered 2-3pm and arrives early before you arrive home to collect it then complaints would ensue. Now of course with online maps and texting that may be all unnecessary but perhaps it’s hungover from earlier times.

I'm here to stick up for couriers, again, because I am one. It really doesn't work like that. So his van was full at 5pm? He's out 'til they're delivered, as simple as that, especially for DPD as they're out until all hours, as they can't do ANYTHING with the parcel outside the one hour time slot, and have to have a photo of the parcel in an open doorway when delivered, or a GPS spot on the address when anything otherwise.

If no one's home it goes back to the depot and it comes out again the next day. You won't get paid for a failed delivery, so it's in the drivers interest to deliver the parcel the first time it's on the van, especially self employed drivers and the cost of running a van now. If it fails a second time, it goes into a hold bay for 7 days, you'll have the option to go pick it up from the depot, or after 7 days it'll go back to sender. They certainly don't go down the scam route or to an auction house.

Obviously I can't speak for said driver, was he not in his time window? He maybe is "just one of them" as there are in every aspect of life, or maybe he was just having a bad day. Who knows. At the end of the day, people are too quick to slag us couriers off when we're delivering peoples stuff they can't be arsed to go and pick up from a shop themselves, and are too quick to moan online about it when they clearly don't know how it all works.

As I’ve said (repeatedly) here, I’ve never had a problem with any of the couriers or RM!

I've had no issue with anyone.
Always get stuff delivered on time.
Dpd are great for me as I always get an hour time slot and it's always accurate.
Received a delivery from Dpd today and it was spot on.
I do try to avoid Hermes, but only because of what I read on here.....my wife gets stuff from a company that use Hermes and she doesn't seem to have any issues....

Herpes have changed their name.

Evri/Hermes are the worst locally. I had an order that the sender told me had been dispatched last Monday. Evri’s tracking link showed “we’re expecting it” up till Thursday, then suddenly switched to “out for delivery”. It was delivered about 5 minutes later. Presumably their tracking on the website isn’t exactly accurate, to say the least. At least it got here I suppose. DPD are usually much better but RM/Parcelforce are the best around my way.

Last year we had a lady Hermes driver who was really good but she moved on and got replaced by a real numpty. It got so bad with missed deliveries, parcels being dropped at the wrong house or just disappearing into the ether that eventually the local pub landlady arranged for him to drop all the parcels at the pub, then she’d message you to collect.

We deal with two couriers at work. DPD and UPS. We keep UPS because DPD were absolutely shocking for international deliveries, so we only trust them with domestic deliveries now. I use the term trust loosely, because although they do deliver they just throw our stuff in the back of their van and I've heard it fall over as they've driven off before now. UPS, on the other hand, are far more professional with dedicated vans that are properly kitted out.

Well that’ll teach me to never say never. My Amazon delivery got later and later estimates and the “see all updates” box vanished and it was ”Sorry but it’ll be there by 10pm“. At 21:59 it was still coming by 22:00 but no “map”. Then of course it was “Sorry, tomorrow” etc! . It’s not urgent or a big purchase.

Here in Ireland DPD used to be one of the more reliable couriers outside of Amazon [They have been consistent and speedy here past couple of years] Any issues/delays I've had in the past were with Fastway or UPS. But lately DPD have definitely gone downhill. There always seems to be a delay of some kind. I ordered a not-so-cheap package on Friday from an Irish site [that promises same day dispatch on orders placed before 3pm] my order was placed at 8am before I left for work that day. I expected the package would arrive by Tues [yest] but no sign, so I check the site to see the order still 'processing' - I give them a ring, and they say DPD failed to pick up orders on both the Fri and Mon, but it should be with me by weds [today] - There was nothing significant about last weekend, no bank hol or any kind of relevant day that would slow up deliveries. They just failed to collect from the distributers, twice. No doubt I'll get an alert later telling me to make sure someone is in to take delivery within a 1hr window - they'll fail to arrive anytime close to it as usual, if it even arrives today.

Well said!

I think DPD are a victim of their own success, everyone is now using them as they were so reliable during lockdown. The 1 hour timeslot, drivers name and picture proof delivery was seen as pioneering a few years ago.
Now everyone just moans about crap service without knowing the facts.

It's also true that couriers in general have been under tremendous stress, what with the pandemic and all. I've talked to some of the drivers and they will tell you that the volume of work is phenomenal. They are having to cope with a level of business that they were planning for several years down the line.

I had a chat with our postie this morning. He was telling me how he’s been rushed off his feet since the pandemic started, plus he’s now inherited an extra fifty new delivery spots as there’s a new build estate just filling up at the end of our village.

Mind you, he still managed to spend half an hour talking to me about his fishing hobby, his awful brother and his upcoming retirement plans. :)

During the pandemic, my daily drop average trebled from 55-60 drops per day to 180 per day, and since things have opened up it's still double what it used to be on an average day of about 120 drop, like you say, a workload that was forecast 5 years from now. In a city that's easy and they come off quickly, but on a rural route like mine, I'm covering 200 miles per day and 5 postcode areas, mainly on country lanes and forest tracks for some deliveries, still working within an hour time slot.

I'm actually a joiner by trade but had a complete change just over 3 years ago to become a courier. I chose the wrong time, that's for sure. The money during the pandemic was worth it, but we were working for it too, the lead up to Xmas when folk were in lockdown was sometimes 16 hour days. It's certainly not the easy cushy job people thinks it is, I was shocked when I changed career just how much work it is, but I love it. Not only has it got me out of a dead end 22 year career, the mental aspect of the job has benefitted me greatly to the point my social anxiety has all but disappeared over the last 2 years because every day I have to speak to people I don't know or go into places I don't know, that has always been one of my major anxiety triggers.

Sorry for the slight tangent!

I think this is usual but it hasn’t happened often enough to be sure, but Amazon just say “If it’s not delivered today you can claim a refund” with no delivery time details anywhere. My suspicion is that they have lost it because otherwise surely it would go back in the system for delivery.

Although I have no problems with the drivers Amazon’s delivery systems and website are pretty bad considering how large they are -- probably because they are so too large!

DPD have always been spot on for me, they delivered my Mac Studio last week and I had to show them my driving licence to prove it was me, there was no way he was going to just leave it on the doorstep. As for Hermes, the wife gets all her stuff from Debenhams, River island and so on delivered by them and we actually know the driver as he has had the route for about three / four year now.

Here in Cornwall we usually get the same drivers delivering, and all, without exception are friendly, reliable and overworked. I've always tried to leave feedback (which often isn't easy) and the only times we've had problems were with new drivers who couldn't find our house (our road has been shut off at one end for the last 12 years but some Sat navs don't seem to know this..!)
DPD are the best here, but so many other companies could follow their lead by updating delivery times and keeping one informed.

Not at all. Obviously it was the stimulus you needed to overcome your fears. Good for you.

Thanks for sharing that — very interesting to hear “the other side”.
