Is a straight swap for a Nikon D80 for a Fuji S5 a good swop, or would you think its not a good idea what do you all think

^^ Help ^^

It depends what side you are on and what the condition of both are.

The S5 is more akin to a D200 than a D80 so if you are swapping a D80 for a Fuji S5 then you are probably getting a good deal - provided the S5 is in good condition and hasn't been abused by a Pro.

well if the value is similar then to swap a tool for one that better suits your needs makes good sense.

I've never had a Fuji digital but I've had and loved fuji film stuff. I'm a big fan of the quality and they are a huge player in the photo industry.

The S5 is basically a D200 with Fuji innards and a different ( 6mp) Super CCD sensor. It doesnt have the same image processing or buffer capacity as the D200. It is geared towards tonality and color over biting sharpness or speed and was favoured for portraits or Wedding shots.
Not sure if its a good deal swapping the D80 for the S5 and think how that super sensors image processing will affect your shooting. On a good note, the S5 jpegs straight out of the camera are supposed to be second to none!
Would I have swapped my D80? No.

I have owned an S3 Pro and was very impressed with the jpegs out of camera. The S5 Pro is a marked improvement over the S3. If you do landscape and portrait rather than sports photography I would advise you to go for the S5. Its a D200 body with Fuji gubbins - a great combination with speed of use the only downside. You should lurk awhile in the fuji SLR forum on DPReview. You will see some excellent examples of photos taken with the S5.

thanks guys :)
