Is a grey website background just too drab??

I'm always thinking about website tweaks and having recently changed the format slightly, to utilise a carousel for viewing photos, but I'm wondering if the grey background is just a bit drab so lacks some impact.

Obviously the primary purpose of a photography website is to display photos and the reason I chose grey initially was that I though it interfered least with the photos on display

I'd appreciate peoples thoughts on this - looking around the web at other photographers sites grey doesn't seem too popular a choice

thanks

Simon

its not exactly boring slate grey, but i feel it takes some of the wow factor from your stunning landscapes.

i know that some think black or white backgrounds can be boring as well, but have you tried black?

Ok - I've changed the main site background/surround from the light blue/grey to black which seems to help as the photos seem to stand out that bit more. Still not sure if the main site content background would be better with some subtle colour though
