Hi All

Though that I'd give this 52 thead a go, I'm hoping to stick with it for the entire year although I may play a joker or two along the way.

Well here goes: Week 1 - 'Curved' ....A section of my washing machine drum:

I like this photo - you lose all sense of scale looking at it!

That is a really cool shot, albeit it hurt my eyes looking at it with all the little circles.
Really nice colours and sharpness.
Great effort for your first entry!
Good luck in the coming weeks.

Excellent. I've never have known what it was if you hadn't said. I can't even tell which way up it is

Excellent take on the theme and very original. Looks like some kind of futuristic space ship!

Nice interpretation of the theme! Lovely detail in the shot

I thought it was a close up of a plug guard thing...

Thats class, I think you win the award for most curves in the image.

Exellent shot, the lighting is great and gives a real depth to the image. Looking forward to seeing your future shots.

Very abstract and interesting shot

Very good, a different slant on an everyday item. Well exposed and composed!

Can't say that I'm a big fan of poetry so nothing immediate came to mind when this one was pulled out of the bag. After a quick search though I came across a poem about coffee...a substance that I am a very big fan of!

'A mystery wrapped in brown,
A fragile enigma,
Enveloping the senses,
With the earthy steam
Of a bean.

The mind wrapped in warmth,
The essence of dark roast,
Heating from within,
The senses thrill,
With every lingering
Sniff of the aroma
In the mug'

I'm off for a brew....

An interesting take on the theme.

The top right quarter looks a little bright to me though.

Yeh you're right, it is a bit too bright, I originally shot just using natural daylight but the results looked a little flat so I added in some flash lighting from 45 degrees above on the right of the frame but I should have probably reduced the power more than I did.

Thanks for your feedback Andy. :)

Washing machines! Mine no way looks that new! I like the pic though - sort of thing that appeals to me. This coffe is a great image that looks to be a little over-contrasty... was it originally like this or have you upped things a little? Not sure on the close crop either, but I do like it.

I like the idea a lot, but agree about the light. If you'd had a reflector left side it'd have balanced it out better.

Week 1 - Excellent interpretation of the theme, pin sharp, nicely done.

week 2 - Great idea, the light is slightly harsh on RHS but I like it.

Yeh I've upped things a bit - applied a curve and a colour burn layer at 5%, I wanted the image to appear 'rich' (like good coffee) but maybe I've overcooked it a bit.

Not sure on the close crop either, but I do like it.

My original intention when setting up this shot was to include the whole cup & saucer but the initial results didn't do much for me so I ended up going with a tighter crop which just seemed to work better.

It’s definitely a shot that I'm just not sure of myself so it is very interesting to get other people’s opinions.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

I rather like the brightness focussing on the coffee beans, and the shot works for me.

Agreed that a touch of fill from the left would help, plus I might be tempted to burn the bright spot just above the saucer on the left hand side as it draws the eye away from the beautiful rich coloured background that matches the beans so wll.

Not really happy with this weeks shot, I've gone with the obvious choice of food but I didn't want to just shoot something static on a chopping board.

I was aiming for some movement but i think it looks more like it's out of focus rather than being motion blur. There's also some issues with using flash which has caused some blown highlights where it's reflecting back off the peppers.

I'd of re-shot it but the other half was starting to moan about where her dinner was.

Somehow I've totally missed this thread.

Fantastic images for week 1 and 2.
Curved is quirky and abstract but spot on theme.
Poem - love the tones and colours in this one.

Your chopped shot - definitely got some potential there and I like the way that you've caught the movement.
A couple of little niggles for me, but I think you've already picked them up with your own critique.

A shot with great potential I think.

As Sarah has said, you already know what needs changing. I would also try and blur the background.

Those yellow peppers are a pain to light with over exposure though aren't they?

I like all your images so far, I especially like the colours in your chopped one.
I think with a bit more time and less pressure from your other half :D, this could really work. I also like the dof in your image, with a wee tweak to capture movement this would look good in a magazine/cookbook. well done!

Week 1 - Coooool - tempting to have as my desktop back ground

Week 2 - A genuinly good picture - the sort of quality I'd expect advertising the coffee its self how ever fits well with the poem and personal theme.

Terran

I agree!:clap::clap:

And I really like your chopped one as well, maybe not technically perfect, but it works well as an image, and tells the story it is intended to do, so job well done:thumbs: Can't wait to see more:)

I think it's a very well laid out image, from the book to the oil to the flame and pan. You've noted the pain of shooting anything yellow, so maybe red and green peppers next time. I like a lot

Thanks for all the feedback this week.

I've learnt that I need to spend more time getting to grips with using off camera flash to get more consistent results, there was a couple of other shots where the peppers are in a better mid air position but they were either under or overexposed. Also the peppers where actually red, yellow and orange but the orange ones came out yellow??? - time to re-read the flash instruction book.

I like it, it works and it's different.. a couple of things you've picked up already, so I'm not going to mention them ;)

"Poetry" - I like this a lot - I can almost smell that coffee! Lighting is perhaps a little harsh but makes it more dramatic.

"Chopped" is a great idea, and one you should return to when you have a bit more time. Very promising.

Oh dear, starting to fall behind already.....Week 4 Street:

I like that street shot! what did you do to it to make it look so cool?!

Don't worry about being behind, I've just posted my street after completely missing chopped and poetry! Now for speed...
