When I attempt to watch the BBC iPlayer on my 3.5 year old Panasonic 'smart tv', it more often than not won't load and after a period of time the screen will revert to the channel currently being broadcast. It is a bit 'hit and miss' though, sometimes it will work but usually after attempting to load maybe six times, I give up.

It's strange as Netflix will run efficiently and without problem every time.

Can anyone suggest what I might be able to do (other than replace the telly)? It's frustrating as most of my tv viewing these days would be via the iPlayer and Netflix as the tv isn't capable of receiving either ITV or C4 'catch-up' apps.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried turning off hd on the iPlayer. I have the same sort of problem, takes ages to load.

Do you have a chromecast or similar you can try? Run iplayer from your phone and cast it to the TV.

I have had similar problems for short time with my Panasonic tv. I'm not technical enough to understand it fully, but from what I understand the on demand services built into the tv go through Panasonic servers and sometimes issues are down to them rather that with iplayer itself. Doing the above bypasses that and can show where the fault lies.

iPlayer is useless on my TV too and virgin's TiVo isn't much better. Works great on the Amazon fire stick though.

The iPlayer works well on my iPad so I guess it's a Panasonic issue. I wondered if commercial interests didn't have something to do with it...

Is there any option to update the iplayer app on the tv? Could be you're running out of date software and that's causing problems.

The major change to iplayer is that it now asks whether you have a TV licence. If the app doesn't let it ask that and get an answer it won't load. The iplayer app on my humax wouldn't work for a while so I'm assuming they were forced to update it.

I'd email panasonic and make sure they know it's not working.

Does the tv have a 'check for updates' or similar thing anywhere?

My IPlayer on my Samsung SMART TB no longer works

I have a ROKU 3 TV box with rheir IPlayer from the Channel store - runs perfect.

Would getting a fire stick be a solution for me?

Yes certainly one choice and cheap to go with swell, another option is a chrome cast.

I think the issue with the TV is iPlayer has been updated and the app on your TV hasn't - therefore very glitchy, possibly won't be too long before it completely stops if Panasonic don't update the app / software...

The first thing I thought of was attempting to update the software but there's no facility to do that it seems :(

The iPlayer seems to have an 'updated' appearance recently but the difficulty of not loading seems worse if anything.

I think a fire stick etc is the way to go.

If you have a games console, HDD recorder or a blu ray player, it may be worth using their iPlayer app - although some devices could only be connected to the router via an Ethernet cable.
