Hi folks, hope someone can give me an answer.

What's the warranty on iPhones from apple store here in the UK?

I thought it would be two years but the chap in Apple said 1 year and the started talking about apple care (which is an insurance policy not a warranty).

Wife and I currently have pixel phones but fancy a change..but seems strange that apple only gives a one year warranty.
 
12 month warranty but you have other rights as well. goods have to be fit for purpose and last a reasonable amount of time

It would be reasonable to expect a £1000 phone to last more than a year.

I get Apple care as I’m worried about damage etc. I’d not be so worried about a warranty. iPhones have been made in their millions for years now, the risk of a manufacturing defect that doesn’t show in the first year is quite low.

When it _has_ happened - I had an iPhone 5 with a rattling power button - Apple replaced it after 2 years for me (not on AppleCare)
 
Yeah you can buy AppleCare within 60 days iirc (or might be 30, it tells you in the settings app). Might just be the rolling monthly AC+ rather than the 2 yr though. It’ll say on apple’s website.
 
John Lewis still do a 2 year warranty on apple products I believe, worth checking their prices as sometimes they have money off, especially with the sale looming.

Yes I will get them from John Lewis , I get a lot of my stuff from there as the warranty is fab.
 
If purchased direct from the Apple Store, they used to allow 2 years under the Sale of Goods Act, not sure if that is still the case.

The sale of goods act doesn’t exist anymore. It was replaced by the consumer rights act in 2015 and makes no provision for 2 year guarantees (I believe this is or used to be an EU thing but the U.K. was not opted into that as our own consumer rights were deemed to be superior). In fact we have no statutory guarantee period for anything we buy other than were a fault occurs within the first six months it is assumed to have been present at the point of sale unless is can be proved otherwise by the retailer.

Other than that there is an expectation that goods should last a reasonable amount of time but that time is not defined and would depend on the type of goods and price paid. So while it may be reasonable to expect a £1000 phone to last more than 1,2 or 3 years (who decides) you would not expect a £10 set of head phones to last the same amount of time.
