There's a good cross section of folks here and I'm just kinda curious as to what people think about these.

It's a very powerful little box, that much has to be agreed. The question here is about whether all that power in your palm and the way the interface works is a cool thing or the makings of a geek?
 
I had one but I sold it for my current N95 8GB simply because the iPhone lacked certain features that every phone should have. Picture messaging being one and Bluetooth file transfer another.

Maybe they'll sort all these issues out with the 3G version? Having said that it was a super cool phone and the clarity of the screen is second to none :D
 
They may do picture messaging but when it comes to BT file transfers, the man from Del Mac, he say.... NO.

You'd have thought that with all the clever tech they have, apple could could get the phone to recognise when a file has come from iTunes. :shrug:
 
Why do I need picture messaging when I can send a picture via email in a few clicks to multiple people for free?

Sorry, I just don't get the need for it.

I don't use pic messaging very much at all but when I do, it's so I can put an image in front of someone instantly. If they have mobile email then I could do that, if not, chances are the (most likely very poor) joke will be lost. ;)

I think the concept of the iPhone is super cool. I don't know if I'd want all that stuff with me all the time but it's a great idea for a device.

Where I'm not so sure, is when you see someone sat there looking like they are trying to pleasure a small hand held rodent. There is something about all that syncronised fingering that has the niff of geek about it.
 
super DUMB imho....maybe after another year or two that view will change, once tech. is perfected, but for now, very flakey :P

LMAO! Yeah I can understand that, but with time you learn how to do it single handed ;) FNAR FNAR!

In all honesty I never thought I'd find a device that wasn't a compromise. I've had LOADS of so called "smart phones" in the past all with the intention of doing away with a PDA. NONE of them managed it.

It was either a case of:

  • Can I really be arsed to carry 2 devices?
  • Can I even read the information on such a small screen?
  • Why does it take SO long to navigate the device?
  • And people think Windows is a slow OS to react to input!

I've tried pretty much ALL of the current crop of smartphone technologies and the only one that really stands out for me is the iPhone. Add the new features of the 3G version and It's game over for me.

In fact, I've even found I can do away with my laptop in some instances.

[edit] Just as an example of how cool and useful the iphone is: I was visiting family recently in Bolton and we all decided, spur of the moment, to eat out. Someone had been recommended a local Italian restaurant but could only remember the location not the name. Out comes the iphone, google maps, Search "Italian restaurant", is this the place? "Yes" is the reply. 2 more clicks and I'm on the phone to the restaurant to see if they have a table. Total time to booking? 30 seconds![/edit]

Because not everyone has an email inbox in their pocket, whereas with MMS they do ;)

It wasn't a particularly huge factor in my sale of my iPhone as I don't use picture messaging much anyway, but Bluetooth file transfer I do. Especially from mobile to mobile and mobile to PC.

Also the built in and free sat nav is awsome, it can pin point you within yards, fantastic device.

Yeah the demonstration of loopt looked vey cool!

I can see an explosion of location based tools on the market thanks to that feature alone.
 
Really fabulous device, but hate the business model (packaged with enforced expensive monthly contract). I'll buy one once that disappears.

it's über cool.......I have one and it's reduced the gadget count in my pocket and also the amount of work i get done :)

Sure i'd like picture messaging because there are still peasants out there who don't have mobile email :cuckoo:.......come on you people !!!!

I'll be going with the iphone 2 too :D

You'd be surprised though. My monthly bill has gone down from £160-200 a month to no more than £90!
 
Had one for ages and *still* playing with it. Not had a phone before which held my interest after a month never mind several. Will be upgrading to the 3G model as I do a lot of data on the move.
 
my data counter is showing over a Gb of data moved over the edge network..... I hate to think what that would have cost on a normal phone :eek:

It wouldn't cost nothing if you had Bluetooth on a normal phone, would it?

I'm happy with the phone i have now :lol:
 
Bluetooth is a different protocol and isn't used in the same manner as edge or 3G

Data is usually around 3 to 4 quid per mb !!!
 
I'm happy with my Nokia brik 6220 or whatever it is, cameraless phone.

I can phone people with it and send text messages.

i phone ? Not for me thanks, therefore geeky.
 
O2's deals with the new iPhone are very good.

£45 per month gets you 1200 mins talk time and 500 texts! on that tariff you can get the 8gb iPhone for free or the 16gb iPhone for £59! 18 month contract.
