morning,

so ive just received my 4S which is replacing my HTC that had satnav preinstalled.

does anyone have any recommendations for satnav apps, pref free or very cheap? looking at the app store charts the navfree one looks okay?

cheers

Nafree is what all my colleagues use and rate very highly. One person even used it for directions all around Florida on a holiday last year (with downloaded maps so no roaming charges).

installed navfree last night, paid the £4 for no ads and the speedcamera info. seems pretty good..

its just a pain in the arse that the cable i have in the car for my ipod which works perfectly and plays back over my stereo gives a "charging not supported with this accessory" message on the iphone..

me = ffffuuuuuuu

Is the Google navigation one not available on the iPhone Neil?

Used NavFree yesterday as my car was in for service and the replacement didn't have a built-in unit. I found that it was very good but drained the battery quite quickly - I went from 100% at the start of the journey down to 30% when I got home in the evening. This included a very slow journey across east London early morning, general use of the phone in the day and another slowish journey home - the NavFree app was on for about 3 hours in total.

But for a freebie, it's pretty good!

Nav free is good until you get on the motorway, it tells you to leave at every exit and get back on again after the roundabout

That's interesting; I've not tried it on motorway but I will sometime to check :D

I've only used TomTom on the iPhone and it's very good.

I was concerned about the data usage as my plan is only 500MB a month, but the GPS doesn't use data from your plan as far as I can see.

Highly recommend TomTom.

Are there adverts on the roundabouts it wants you to look at instead

I use CoPilot on my 4S, it does cost but not mega bucks and I've been more than happy with it. Think I paid £20 2½ years ago when I was on my old 3GS.

Been very happy with it's functionality, and use it all the time on long trips.

I have tomtom on my 4s but I have also downloaded Waze...It is amazing, so much fun from a sat nav and works so very well, oh and its free

I've tried a few of the free nav apps on my 4s, but found them to lack the polish and accuracy of TomTom. I still use Waze for live traffic info on routes I know, but for actual navigation, TomTom is worth the money. Not having to rely on having a good data connection is definitely a plus point.

I have used Co-Pilot for over 2 years and i find it really good! The lane info i found to be brilliant in London! It does hammer your battery because of the GPS but a simple 12v socket charger solves this!
