iPhone Question

Both my wife and myself have an iPhone 4S, both with o2 and both using iOS6.

When I go to check the data usage, hers is under "Mobile Data", mine is under "Cellular Data". Also, hers shows "tether" data, mine doesn't.

What gives?

Tethering is enabled by the network and is price plan dependent.
Not all contracts have tethering enabled.

You and you wife will have different types of contract. If you are both on identical contracts then one of the phones requires an update from O2.

Ah, I see. I think that must be it then. I originally started the contract with a Samsung Galaxy S3. Both plans are the same as far as minutes/data/text & price though.

Tethering can be handy if you have a wired broadband connection for your PC and if for any reason there is an outage - you can connect your iphone to your pc via usb and use the iphone as a temporary modem till the wired connection is back up.

Indeed, doesn't have to be an iPad that was just an example. Could be nearly any other device

Just make sure you have an unlimited data plan or you'll zip through your allowance quite quickly on a laptop/desktop.
