Does anyone know how I can reset my iPhone clearing out my photos but leaving them in the cloud? I'd like to free up the 40GB of space the photos take up, and have a general spring clean of the phone, but don't want to lose the photos.

Any ideas?

TIA,
Nick

No idea about the specific query but I'd suggest connecting it to a Dropbox / Google drive account and backing them up there - that way they are independent of Apple.

I have it connected to four clouds already, I’m paranoid!

In Settings\AppleID,Icloud etc\icloud\photos you can turn on iCloud photo library, then choose optimise iPhone storage. It'll keep the full res ones in the cloud and optimised ones on the device. Enough space in the iCloud is obviously necessary.

I also meant to add that I did this too, however I didn’t optimise the storage straight away, I don’t know how long it needs to upload the full res images etc!

I had no idea I could do that. Started the process now, I'll see what I'm left with after the upload

You can check progress of the upload by logging into iCloud.com on a PC too, it’ll show you where you’re up to

Well there you go. 40GB to 1.33 GB nice one!

Maybe you can try to transfer your photos to your PC for backup then clear them on your iPhone.
