Hi All , came across someone using this at a wedding and the results looked mighty impressive. Just wondering how close to conventional cameras the iphone is getting , cant find a detailed spec on the camera other than 8 mp and around 1/2 inch sensor , and has anyone got any real world photos to download anywhere other than apples gallery which i take with a pinch of salt or two !

cheers
Andy

Just search Flickr groups, that should give you plenty of examples.

I really wouldn't get excited about it. As good as it (and some camera phones in general) look on paper, they always have that naff camera phone quality about them. The 6 is no exception.

Ok for the phone screen, sync it onto your computer and it's rubbish, with no leeway for any processing.

Small sensor, small lens, it's all about physics.

There has just been a thread created by Ricardodaforce with pics of New York with his i-phone 6, thread here > http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/an-iphone-in-new-york.565525/

Some cracking images in there for a phone.

Have a look at the thread I posted above, some nice pics there taken with an i-phone 6.

You can take nice images with any camera (within reason!) but you've asked how close they are to conventional cameras, which is no where near.

If I had to choose to take out my Canon 6d with a nice prime, or my iPhone 5 or 6.... The choice is simple as it can't compete, therein lies the answer!

The sensor on the 6 is under 2/3 inch, so it's still pretty small.

Don't forget, phones are clever, they mask most shortcomings with software, tuned for their screens, hense why they look so poor when shown on anything bigger.

That's not taking into account ergonomics, AF, response, lenses....

Some good photos, no doubt. That's down to the skill of Ricardodaforce. But you can tell they're from a phone, even at web sizes. Especially when viewed on my PC monitor.

Agree with that, but as you said above, what the OP asked was "Just wondering how close to conventional cameras the iphone is getting" what is a conventional camera??

To me, looking at some of the photos at the link I posted, they are better than what some of the DSLR photos I have seen on here, including mine. Agreed, that is down to Ricardo as the photographer, an example is this commonly taken photo >https://www.flickr.com/photos/ricardodaforce/15611891426/in/photostream/lightbox/

So IMO the i-phone is getting close to a crop DSLR (my understanding of a conventional camera), you may say Bridge, P&S Compact or FF. Opinions, opinions, I suppose the OP needs to clarify conventional camera.

A conventional camera is any dedicated camera a consumer can buy, that's the way I look at it, but I refer to my DSLRs as they are conventional and that's what I have.

There are no phone pics close to any DSLR outputs, it's just not possible.

I look at my iPhone 5 and 6 images (now) on my photo stream on my pc monitor and they are hopeless compared to my (2008) 50d, let alone 6d.

And did I mention lenses??! Try shooting wildlife on a phone...

Does the iphone 6 give you any control of aperture, iso etc? I'm still rattling along with my iphone 5. Camera is okay up to a point but as soon as it cranks the iso up at all, the pictures become a horrible mess.

Oooo I just noticed this! Thanks for the attention and kind words. The thread linked to really isn't a real representation of capabilities of the iPhone 6 camera though, as almost all of those shots were cropped and run through either Instagram or Camera+ filters.
