I have been using a MBP and an iMac for years, but I have just got an iPad mini, (and a lovely bit of kit it is!!)

A Basic question

Is the only way I can exchange data etc., between my iMac and the iPad, by using iTunes

I use the iCloud thing to sync my iPhone/iMac/MBP and now the iPad for contacts and Calendar ........ but I want to take a folder of images from my iMac and put them on the iPad, (presumably I can only do this through iTunes?)

no drag and drop possible?

I just don't really understand how the iPad works with the iMac

Can the iPad be seen as a "Device" on my iMac . as my MBP can...............?

Should be possible to use Airdrop from iOS to OS X (Yosemite onwards), but for sure Dropbox will work too.

Do you use icloud for photos? That way any photos that are in photos on the mac or you take with an iphone or the ipad will automagically be shared. I use that. Works a treat. No need to faff about dragging and dropping folders.

You can use icloud for normal folders. Login in your mac and it appears as a normal drive. You could then create a folder of the images you want if you don't want to use the Photos app for sharing. Then any other idevice logged into the same icloud account can see all the same stuff.

easier to use dropbox

Done, but how can I move the file from Dropbox, (on my iPad) into a permanent folder on the iPad Desktop

Can I create my own folders on the desktop and link them to an app, (say the photos or a pdf app), on the iPad

Just choose save in Dropbox and it will save to photo folder on your ipad

I go along with Dropbox, the app works fine & to download to iPad just select the picture and tap on the funny box with an arrow sticking out the top. This should save the photo to your camera roll.
