Ipad Mini - anyone else have problems with headphone socket?

Joe, I have the latest ipad and I assure you, placing the cursor is a proverbial pain in the bum!

Only by enlarging the page can I place the cursor where I want it, so I definitely agree with Suz.

You are forgetting your deceased husband had them specially program in the following all over IOS.

If you use the magnifier to get to the right word, then double tap, it will come up with a little menu saying select, select all and paste, just tap select and it will select that word, then move the little bars by holding your finger on them and dragging them to where you want.
 
With tap, hold and swipe you'd have the screen scroll automatically in whatever direction you moved the swipe so you could move across screens. As soon as you bump the edge it would show you more in that direction. The majority of people logically highlight text from the start of what they want to the end. I've never seen anyone highlight in the middle and stretch to the start and end from there.

They should have experimented on me. I'd have told them where they were going wrong :D

it's not about just highlighting what you want, it's being able to pan and scroll the page, then come back to what you highlighted to continue if needed.

the rules are different when you don't have a hover mode.

We beg to differ :)

I'd settle for some cursor keys on the standard keypad. That would help no end with the poor positioning.

I've now got the infamous 'unable to connect to itunes' error when trying to access the app store. :bang:

i think you would be better off with a netbook by the sounds of it. I'd send the ipad back if I were you :thumbs:
 
My old macbook is basically a netbook. It's too slow for much else. The point of an ipad is to see about app development for it and because it doesn't weigh a ton like a laptop or have short battery life. As a passive consumption device it works very well. It's just the text input that is leaving a lot to be desired!

Cursor keys on the standard keyboard would have removed most of my annoyance with it.

I've been developing for ios for quite a while. It's lots of fun
 
Years ago I had the idea for a smart shopping app. Phones didn't have gps and wifi then so it was a pipedream to be able to search online/shop's epos for something and find it in or near your current location and have it take you to the exact rail in the shop ( I thought shops would have everything with rfid tags so they would know where all their stock was )

Probably been done by now.
