iPad and ios

Have just got IPad 1 have reset it and updated, iOS is 5.1
The latest ios is 7, can I update to this and would I gain anything, I am assuming not as it would have updated automaticay :shrug:

I might be wrong but I don't think the ipad one can be updated to iOS 7. On ipad 2 onwards.

iPad one can only be updated to iOS 5.1.1

I wish they'd done similar with the iPhone, my old iPhone 4 got steadily slower with each update.

But once it's started slowing down theres always promises the updates will make it faster. And there's always 'security fixes'.

I'd like to see my old iPhone 4 running the iOS it came with, I'll bet it'd be as fast as my iPhone 5
