iPad advice

At present I have the original iPad Air, 128gb which is good but seems slow loading apps - I've just reset it but I think it's an age related issue (the iPad, not my age).

How would this one compare - much of an improvement?

I've no particular reason to stay with iPads so happy to go for a Tab S6 as an alternative.

I think the original Air is unsupported now, so you'd be moving to a newer version of iOS. Other than that I'd say it's about the same. You'd lose a laminated screen so there's a noticeable air gap between the glass and the display, that bothers some people and others don't notice it. What do you mainly use your iPad for? It may be worth going up to the current iPad Air, or even a refurb / second hand iPad Pro 11. Don't bother with Android tablets, the app selection and software support pales in comparison to an iPad (I say that as an Android phone user).

I use it only for reading newspapers (yes, I get the irony) and magazines via Readly, as well as occasional browsing / YouTube etc. However, I would also like to use it for a little photo editing on the go via Lightroom - that's where I have noticed the real slowdown.

Thanks for the reply - might be better to keep an eye to Music Magpie for a good deal on an Air / pro, esp when eBay have a 20% off code.

The other thing you'd gain with any new iPad is Apple Pencil support, which makes photo editing in LR a lot of fun. My iPad Pro is my main editing machine now, I haven't edited any images on my PC since I got it

I’ve had the iPad 2, iPad Air 2, and now the Air 3 (or whatever it’s called) and iPad Pro 10.5. I think the current iPad you linked is good value for money but I tend to agree with the others here that the Air or Pro will suit you better.

If you are looking at Apple Pencil, note there are 2 versions, my iPads both work with Pencil 1 but not #2 and the later iPads that work with #2 are not backwardly compatible :(.

Thanks for the replies :)

I'll have to investigate a little deeper, or decide if I even need another...

I wouldn't recommend the Tab S6. It's a stunning piece of hardware, possibly the best Android tablet ever, but suffers all the shortcomings of the Android world.
As a curve-ball, what about the new Surface Go 2? I was thinking about an iPad Pro 11 but the improvements of the Go 2 over the original were enough to keep me in the Windows camp.
