Yes
Trying to access from Vodafone/Three - IP 92.40.195.20 - straight IP ban.

My address is also blocked, but I don't know why. I've always been good and well-behaved: 62.46.64.41 ;)

To get here, I have to use a VPN connection.

I also have the same problem and now always use VPN. Even then I only get access about 50% of the time.

Sorry about that. try it now?

I installed Proton VPN (free) today and was blocked from accessing TP. I disconnected the VPN - problem solved.
I asked BRAVE search engine about this and the reply is:-
Yes, TalkPhotography.co.uk has been reported to block access for users connecting through a VPN. The site's administrators have stated that a significant portion of spam and hacking attempts originate from VPNs, which has led to the implementation of measures to restrict or block traffic from known VPN IP addresses. This policy is in place to enhance site security and protect against malicious activity, as VPNs are frequently used by spammers and bots. Users have reported being blocked entirely when attempting to access the site via their VPN, forcing them to use alternative methods such as connecting through a mobile hotspot. While some users may still be able to access the site using certain VPN configurations, the general trend indicates that the platform actively restricts or denies access to users employing VPNs.

Brave is giving you the correct response. Sometimes it works but often doesn't.

Well I continue to access just 50% of the time with my VPN. If my VPN is completely blocked I will have no choice but to leave TP. None of this is my fault.

That's your choice Dave, but it is a fact that most security issues arise through the use of von's by bots and hackers. We have to tread a path between security of accounts and the site, and freedom of access. Hopefully you will not haver problems

Why is this the only site I have issues with when abroad. Managed to log in using a VPN Glasgow server but anything else says my IP address is banned

It is what it is. We try to protect the site and accounts, perhaps too well? The tech staff do deal with issues on a case by case basis as not many people seem to have issues, or at least report them.

I can't speak for the admin team here but I assume it's a decision they've taken because they expect most traffic to be coming from the UK. The scale and complexity of attacks over the last couple of years on internet facing systems has really ramped up and it's meant needing to be more heavy handed with security measures including blocking VPN users, TOR exit nodes and VPS hosts. These are where most of the attacks are coming from because it's easier for the users to hide themselves and the source of the attack.

It just takes one person to get lucky and slip in which can be catastrophic for the site since it's difficult to recover from and can take considerable resources. In terms of why it's the only site you're seeing problems with, larger sites can pay for protection through companies like Cloudflare (hence why there are widespread outages across the internet when Cloudflare goes down) but for a smaller, non-commercial site like this then I doubt that's viable. Even if attackers don't get in they can still cause problems from the sheer amount of connection attempts, I had a problem last year where the internet connection was having performance problems, it took a while to find out what was wrong but it turned out two internet routers were having an internal resource exhausted by incoming connections,. The reason it took some time was because it was connections to an appliance webpage that literally does nothing (you can't disable the page itself annoyingly) but there had been such a rise in drive by hacking attempts since they were seeing a webserver that it was killing the router performance.

It's frustrating from the admin side (again not speaking about this site) having spend more and more time on this sort of work but that's unfortunately the world we live in now and I can't see it changing. When I've mentioned to people about the level of attacks on our systems they are genuinely surprised and don't realise the scale of what's happening every day now.

John summarises it very well. We did consider Cloudflare last year, but the subscription would have been punishing and may not have solved all the possible issues. So it wasn't;'t going to be cost-effective for us. Frankly it's better to have a bit of temporary inconvenience for a few people, than risk a problem for the whole site.
