A celebration of Cuckmeres beautiful and dynamic landscape will be held at various venues around Seaford and the Seven Sisters Country Park this summer.
Celebrate Cuckmere will run from 10th-19th June 2011 to coincide with the Pathfinder Projects final public consultation on the future management of the Cuckmere. After ten years of research and discussion, change in some form for the Cuckmere valley is imminent.
To mark this historic moment members of the community and professional artists are being given the opportunity to creatively express their responses to the Cuckmere at a dedicated exhibition.
Organisers of Celebrate Cuckmere are inviting all artists working in any media including the written word, to submit work inspired by the Cuckmere. We are looking for creative work in any art form that is either inspired by, or features views from or of Cuckmere Haven.
We are also looking for artefacts and other historical images and memorabilia relating to Cuckmere for a separate dedicated exhibition so please let us know if you have may have something suitable to lend.
Other events planned are themed guided walks, talks by local historians and archaeologists, workshops for children and adults and other community events. The Coastguard cottages will also be open for the first time to the public.
We are expecting the event to receive high media and press interest.
Details about the Pathfinder Project, the various options proposed for the Cuckmere and dates for the remaining public consultation meetings can be found at www.cuckmerepathfinder.org.uk
The organisers of Celebrate Cuckmere would like to thank our sponsors for their enthusiastic support for this exhibition; Pathfinder Project for its financial backing and The Sussex Wildlife Trust for making The Pump Barn available as a central exhibition space.

Cuckmere Haven is a place to which I am constantly drawn, I guess I must walk down there two or three times a month. I have camped with my children and run workshops for students in art and architecture down at the foxhole barn over the years, with evenings spent round a driftwood fire on the beach. I have swum down there with my family on Christmas mornings.
The meandering estuary enclosed by the chalk cliffs is a hypnotic landscape, how much more so will it be if the river is allowed to find its own course, with its ancient cleansing rhythms of flow, it will return the valley to its extraordinary capacity for rich biodiversity.
